UNTTED sTATns PATENT carica.
BURKHARD STRICKER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SMOKERS ACCESSORY.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, BURKHARD STRICKER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Smokers Accessories, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to smokers accessories and has for its object the production of a support or rest for a smoking pipe which will be of durable and economical construction and neat and ornamental in appearance.
Other objects will appear hereinafter'.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure l is a perspective view of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a central vertical section of the same.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises a thin flat body portion l formed of metal at one end at the upper side of which are provided pieces 9. resembling the front portions of a vest. Also provided upon the upper side of the member l is a centrally positioned band 8 which serves to adapt the device to resemble a shirt bosom as is apparent. Also secured upon the upper side of the member l adjacent the opposite end thereof is a circular band 4 so arranged as to resemble a shirt collar, the lower edge of band 4 being suitably secured to the member l as by soldering. The member 4 forms a circular socket shown adapted to receive the bowl 5 of a smoking pipe as clearly shown in Fig, 8, the ends of the band 4 or collar being spaced apart in order to accommodate the stem of the pipe. The band 4 is formed of spring metal in order to permit of the upper end thereof iiexing outwardly, as shown in dotted lines in F ig. 2, so as to expand the socket formed thereby in order to adapt the same to accommodate pipe bowls of various sizes.
Encircling the base of the band 4 is a reinforcing band 6 of a width such as to adapt Specification of Letters Patent.

the same to resemble the ends of strings of a bow tie 7 which is arranged at the front side of band 4, said bow tie being constituted by a piece of thin flat metal shaped as shown and which is rigidly secured in position by a band or loop 8. The member 7 serves as a rest or support for the pipe stem preventing contact of the ordinarily heated base portion of the pipe bowl with. the plate l and thereby preventing discoloring of the latter which would otherwise result were the heated lower end of the pipe bowl permitted to contact therewith.
ln order to prevent marring of any surface upon which the device may be arranged, such as the polished surface of a dresser, desk top or the like, feet 9 are provided at one end of member l formed b bending or curling back ears formed at the edge of said member.
A device of the construction set forth will be found convenient in use and of pleasing and neat design.
l/Vhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A smoking pipe holder comprising a flat body; a vertically disposed slitted circular band of resilient material having its lower end secured to said flat body and providing a pipe holder; a narrow annular band encircling the lower end of said slitted band and secured to the latter; and a loop around said annular band between the ends of said slitted band and providing a pipe supporting means, substantially as described.
2. A smoking pipe holder comprising a flat body; a vertically disposed slitted crcular band of resilient material having its lower end secured to said flat body and providing a pipe holder, the upper corners of said band at the slit thereof being outwardly Haring; :i narrow annular band encircling naine to this specification in the presence of the lower end of seid slitted band and setwo subscribing Witnesses. Cured to the latter; and a loop around sind BURKHARD STRCKER. annular band between the ends of sind sht- 5 ted band and providing a. pipe supporting 'Vitnesses:
means, substantially as described. JOSHUA R. H. PoTTs.
In testimony whereof I have signed my B. G. RICHARDS.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Eatents, Washington, D. C.
