Rossrrnn, a citizen of the United States, residingat Sunbury, in the county of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

his invention relates to a curtain pole and the principal object of the same is the production of a hollow telescopic pole which is adapted to carry a stick in the interior of the same for supporting the curtain.

Another object of the invention is the production of a simple and efficient means carried by the pole for retaining the balls upon the end portions of the poles, thereby preventing the curtain carrying stick from moving from the interior of the pole.

In the accompanying drawing; Figure 1 is a front elevation of the complete device showing the same supporting the curtains. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the complete device as carried by a window casing, portions of the same being shown in section. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detailed section show ing a portion of the device showing the manner of securing the ball upon each section or endof the pole. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary detailed perspective view of the pole and one bracket. Fig. 5 is a transverse section taken through the pole and curtain stick. Fig. (5 is a detailed perspective view of a slidably mounted curtain pole supporting bracket.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 designates the usual window casing having at its upper portion the molding 2. The bracket which is used in connection with this device for supporting the poles comprises a finger 3 having a downwardly bent spur 4 which is struck from the body portion of the finger so as to dig into the molding 2 for supporting the finger. A diagonal arm 5 is provided at its upper portion with an integral sleeve 6, this sleeve 6 being fixedly secured to the finger 3 by means of the rivet 7 The lower end of this arm 5 terminates in the coiled portion 8 which bears upon the casing 1 for supporting the forward portions of the arm 5 and finger 3 at a spaced distance from the casing 1. A vertical brace 9 is provided with the angularly bent feet 10 and 10, which are secured to the arm 5 and finger 3 thereby holding the arm 5 and finger 3 in a spaced relation toeach other andin such a manner as to allow the same to efficiently operate.

It will-be obvious by referring to Fig. 1

that a bracket as above described may be supported adjacent each side of the casing 1 for supporting the end portions of the pole. This curtain pole is formed of a plurality of sections which are adapted to telescope, each section being hollow and having at its lower section a longitudinal slot 11 through which the curtain is adapted to pass. The edges of the pole 12 adjacent the slot 11 are rolled as clearly disclosed at 13 in Figs. 2 and 4. The curtain pole 12 which comprises the sections is positioned within the sleeves 6 of the brackets for the purpose of supporting the pole. A stick 14 is adapted to be positioned within the pole 12 and carry the curtains 15, as clearly disclosed in Fig. 5. For the purpose of retaining this stick 14 within the pole 12, the balls which are carried at each end of the pole are provided with means for efficiently and securely supporting the same in their correct position. Each ball is hollow and comprises a plurality of sections 16, one of the sections being provided with an opening 17 A retaining plug is fixedly secured within each ball and comprises an elongated body 18 which is held in position by means of the screw 19 passing through one of the sections 16 and engaging the body. This body extends through the opening 17 and terminates in an enlarged head 20 having a rounded inner end 21. This head 20 is adapted to be forced within the interior of the pole 12 so as to slightly expand the the arm 5 is provided with the notch 24 for allowing the lips to be placedin engagement with the arm.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that a simple and eflicient device has been produced for supporting a curtain which is provided with detachable means engaging the window casing for efliciently supporting the pole and also with means for preventing the curtain stick from moving from the interior of the pole.
