FLEXIBLE GABMENT-FSTENER.
Application filed latch 25.
To all whom it may concern g Beit known that I, Mino M. Serrara., a citizen of the United States, residing at and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flexible Garment-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a flexible garmentfastener, which is intended for service on various articles of wearing apparel: such as mens shirts; womens waists; and in fact any and all kinds of `garments that a. flexible fastener-fis adapted for.: but said fastener is more especially and particularly designed for shirts, under-shirts, waists, and all garments of the negligeclass.
Some of the principal objects of this invention consist, in providing a ready and handy means for fastening or securing together the divided parts of a arment, and which is intended andv ada' te totake the lace of the veryl objectiona le buttons, also looks and eyes which are constantly breaking or coming o' the garment.
Another object is to'provide a fastening or securing means for wearing apparel, that is soft and flexible and will not injure the garment when laundered ;*therobyl prolonging the life of said garment.
Furtherobjects are to provide a fastener as above referred to, that is very efficient and durable; is quite simple in construction; and one that is inexpensive.
ThisV invention consists essentiallyf-rcferring briefly and in general terms to my flexible fastener-of the very peculiar arrangement and combination cf the different parts; which will hereinafter be fully dejoined claims all in accordance with the statutes in such cases made and provided therefor.
Referring to the accompanying drawings constituting a formal part of this specification and illustrating one form of construction for carrying out the ob'ects and prin' ciples of my invention, and w erein the same letters are utilized to refer to, and indicate the same parts wherever occurring throughout the several viewsz-Figure l is a view4 in front eleva/tion of a mansshirt equipped with my flexible fastener. -in operative pov sition: -n portion of tinsleeves and the body thereof beingl removed. 'the retaining cord ;-as shown in Fig. l. ["ig.
3 is n sectional view through a portion of the front of the shirt on one `side o the openeves with the retaining loops extending therethrough a ndl the Yrctaining-cord in. position; and Figui isa view of" a portion of the shirt from 'on theside oftheopening or slit. having the endofgthe' cord formed with the retaining loopsf-two of said loops vbeing shown. f.
In describing niysaid invention s ecifically und referring in detail to the di erent parts or clement-s;which-combinegto .make up ,and `complet-e ny .,.tlexible-, gapmelnt fastener, as shown throughoutthe several ,views of the drawings and pointed out therein by means of the characters of reference as aforesaid: A refers to a garment embodying my invention, and which in this instance for the purpose of illustration, I have selected a mans shirt; ,on the side a,see more particularly Fi 1 and 4;--of the usual opening or slit in the .front or bosom of said shirt, by which it is passed over the head when said shirt is placed in position on the wearer in the ordinary and well known manner; is securely attached or connected,-preferably by being sewed,-the end b of a retaining-cord or flexible member, which is formed at any desired and suitable distance apart, into loops c as shown: in this instance I have shown in the drawing three of said loops, but it is obvious that the number may vary according to the size of the shirt and to suit the ideas of the wearer. The loop coming at the neck of said shirt has the end forming the free end d of the retaining-cord or flexible member, passing through an inclosing tube or channel epreferably made fromthe same material as the shim-said tube extending around the neck of the shirt under the collar f. The opposite side g,-see Fi l and 3;-of said opening or slit in the Font-or bosom of the shirt heretofore referred to. and whicheverlaps side a, ia provided with small slots or eyes h, each one of which registers in alinement with and extends at right angles to one of each of the loops o; i. e. there is a slot for euch loop: each of said slots of conne being vworked around the edge in the usual manner similar to a button hole; and
ing, showingr two ofv,the slotted openingsI or llO through each 'of which-when the garment is in operative position or the osition it is intended to assume when on t e wearer as shown in Fig. 1,-extends one 'of` the loops c, and through each of said loops ispassed the free end'd of the retaining-cord after it has. vassed through tube e, as heretofore de scriged: end d is then tied intol a bow k-or if sodesired into a loose knot and the end theupassed through said shirt opening, or in fact end (l can be arranged in any suitable retaining manner desired. It will of course be readily understood that to remove said shirt from the wearer, it is only necessary to u'nte said bow o'.- knot, when free end d efsaid 'cord will readily be drawn upward loops c and: tube e sufficiently, as 'ie @im y ,ire te how said Vshirt tothe removed in the usual manner. If sc ord be 'of i dieifeht shake @eier the .gir-meuh z". e. if the gar;
is 'rif l dark 'color the cord may be of some light brightjeoloi, Yor vice versetif garment is of s.y light color the cord might be off a dark color, thereby enhancing L, Hi, myfeifibfe """'rment fastenerf-in connection with the il trations;-as my invention and as new; l claim- 1. A garment provided with a neck opening and a slit extending downwardly therefrom, and having slots formed in one of the sides of said slit, a flexible member secured to said garment and formed with loops adapted to pass through said slots, said member being slidably retained around the neck of said garment and having its free end passed through said loops; substantially as described.
A garment provided with a neck opening formed with a tube, and :i slit extending downwardly therefrom, and having eyes located in one of the sides of said slit, a oord securely attached to said garment and lformed with loops adapted to pass' through said eyes while'the free end of said cord passes through said tube and said loops; all substantially in the manner and for the purposes descri d. l
In testimony whereof I a'lx my signature in presence of two witnesses.A VV
