IMPROVEMENT 1N WHEEL-FLOWS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 110,410 I, dated December 20, 1870.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN H. SUYDAM, of

Atwater P. 0., of Genessee Town, in the county of Kandiyohi, and in the State of Min- .after fully set forth.

I In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and usetlie same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, inwhich- Figure 1 is a perspective View of a plow with my sulky attachment, and Fig. 2 is a section showing the manner of attaching and adjustin g the sulky attachment to the plow-beam.

A represents the beam, B B the handles, 0 the standard, 1) the mold-board, and E the land-side, of an ordinary plow to which my sulky attachment is to be applied.

G is the axle, the length of which is twice the width of the furrow desired, or about two feet fora common plow. On one end of this axle is formed a wrought or cast iron knee, H,

which is slotted, as shown in Fig. 2. This knee is placed against the beam A, at the standard 0, on the left-hand or land side of the plow, and fastened by a clamp, a, which'passes around the beam, and the ends of which, having screw-threads out on them, pass through the slot in the knee, and are secured by nuts b b. By this means the axle may also be raised and lowered at will, according to the depth it is desired to plow.

0n the other end of the axle G is placed a three or a three-and-a-half feet wheel, I.

7 Elevated above the axle some eight inches, and about sixteen inches from the plow-beam, is the drivers seat J, which is about two feet long, and placed at right angles with the axle.

A bent brace, K, runs from the rear end of the seat J, under and attached to the axle, and then forward to near the front endot' the plowbeam, where it is attached by a bolt or other suitable means. 4

A plow having this sulky attachment is easily controlled by the weight of the driver on the seat, the driver using his weight at the forward end of the seat to make the plow run deeper, and at the other end to throw the plow out. This obviates the necessity of a gagewheel or other cont-rivance'for adjusting the depth of the plowing.

I do not mean to be understood as confining myself to the various dimensions or distances above mentioned, as they may of course be varied, if necessary or so desired.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The within-described attachment for plows, consisting of the wheel I, axle G, elongated seat J, brace K, slotted knee H, and clamp a, all constructed and used substantially as set forth.
