UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEROY v. MnrzeAR, or FREMONT, 01110.
SLIP-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEROY V. Mn'rzcnn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Fremont, in the county of Sandusky and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Slip-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to slip holders for holding sale slips and other loose slips of a similar nature; and it comprises such a slip holder in which the slips are filed from the side instead of from the end and which has a central spring clamp or holding piece hinged at the top and bottom of the holder and arranged intermediate the sides so as to hold the slips near their central portion, said slip holder having also a cut-away side portion for facilitating the insertion and removal of the slips; all as more fully hereinafter set forth and as claimed.
This invention relates to slip holders such as are intended to be used in file cabinets where it is desired to keep the account slips for dilferent customers separate from each other, and where it is desired also that the slips may be readily inserted and removed from the holder as may be necessary or desirable.
The slip holder of the present invention is made up of an open box of suitable material in which the sale slips are adapted to be placed and held therein by a spring clamp extending lengthwise of the holder and pivoted to the ends thereof near its central portion; and in order to facilitate the insertion and removal of the loose slips, the box is cut away at one side, the arrangement being such that the spring clamp may be readily operated by the thumb of one hand while the slips are being inserted or removed by the other hand.
One embodiment of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which- Figure 1 is a top end view of the holder; Fig. 2 is a front view of the holder; and Fig. 3 a sectional view taken on the line 66 of Fig. 2.
I will now proceed to describe my invention with particular reference to the embodiment thereof illustrated on this drawing. The holder as shown is made up of the box 18 which is open at the top and made of sheet metal or other suitable material. Intermediate the sides of this box is pivotally mounted the spring clamp 19 extending Specification of Letters Patent.

from the ends of the box near the middle and being provided with coiled springs at its ends which cooperate with it to hold the slips in place. The bottom or rear side, as well as one lateral side, is cut away at 20 to receive the fingers and thumb of the operators hand when it is desired to remove the slips from the holder or to place the slips therein. It will be seen that. the spring clamp is centrally arranged so that it does not cover up either side of the top slip placed thereunder, and it will also be seen that in the structure shown in the drawing the bearing for this spring clamp is to the left of the center of the holder as a whole while the engagement of the clamp with the slips placed in the holder is slightly to the right of the center of the holder, while the spring clamp as a whole is centrally located with respect to the holder. The operation of this spring clamp and of the holder as a whole is illustrated in Fig. 2. By depressing the rear side of this spring clamp with the thumb of the left hand the slips can be readily inserted or removed by the thumb and fingers of the right hand, the out-away portion at the side of the holder facilitating this operation. A suitable name-plate or card can be attached to the upper end of the holder so that where a large number of these holders are used in a file cabinet the different holders for different customers may be arranged alphabetically, it being understood that usually a separate holder is used for each different account or each different set of slips. The holder is particularly adapted for holding account slips such as are in common use in recording sales to different customers.
Since the slip holder as a whole is of uniform thickness, and since the spring clamp for holding the slips therein is centrally arranged and guards the central portion of the holder, it follows that the holder can be inverted or placed at an angle such that it is in part inverted without interfering in any way with the slips held therein. The cutaway portions of the spring clamps, shown as large round holes, make it possible to View portions of the slips thereunder which would otherwise be obscured.
It will be understood that variations and modifications may be made in the invention illustrated and described withoutdeparting from its spirit and scope as set forth in the accompanying claims.
I claim:
1. A loose-leaf slip holder comprising an open top box having a spring clamp pivotally supported by the ends of said box and arranged to be operated against the operation of the sprin to permit the insertion thereunder and t e removal therefrom of loose slips and to hold said slips in position,
said spring clamp being arranged intermediate the sides of the holder.
2; A loose-leaf slip holder comprising an open top box having a spring clamp pivotally supported by the ends of said box and arranged to be operated against the operation of the spring to permit the insertion thereunder and the removal therefrom of loose slips and to hold said slips in position, said holder having a out-away portion in one side to facilitate the insertion and removal of said loose slips.
3. A loose-leaf slip holder comprising an Copies of this patent may be obtained for open to box having a spring clamp pivotally supported by the ends of said box and arranged to be operated against the operation of the spring to permit the insertion thereunder and the removal therefrom of loose slips and to hold said slips in position, said holder having a cut-away portion in one side to facilitate the insertion and removal of said loose slips, and said spring clamp being arranged intermediate the sides of the holder and being arranged to be operated from the side opposite to the out-away portion.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
