INVOICE HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 5. 19:1.

INVOICE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb. 19, 1918.
Application filed July 5, 1917. Serial No. 178,676.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT C. Bnxpnn. a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Invo ce-Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanving' drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to an invoice holder, the principal object of my invention being to provide a comparatively simple, inexpensive holder which is adapted to receive and hold in a convenient manner invoice sheets or record slips such as are usually employed by business houses and particularly those engaged in the selling and distributing of merchandise.
A further object of my invention is to provide a holder to wh ch the invoice sheets can be easily and quickly applied or from which they can be readily removed. said invoice sheets being retained upon the holder in such a manner as to permit port ons of the sheets to be readily raised or folded over in order to show certain data on the lowermost invoice sheets. this provision being essential in order to facilitate the work of the bookkeeper or clerk in making out the customers statements and in checking off the cash receipts, bills payable and the like. After being removed from the holder, the invoices are placed in suitable containers and constitute a permanent record.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front or face view of an invoice holder of my improved construction and showing an invoice sheet in position thereupon Fig.2 is an elevational view of the rear side of the holder with a removable card positioned thereupon, a portion of said card being broken away;
Fig. 3 is a cross section taken approximately on the line 33 of Fig. 1; I
Fig. 4 is an end view of the invoice holder, the same being bent transversely so as to permit the ready insertion or removal of the invoice sheets;
Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail section taken approximately on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 6 is an enlarged detail section taken approximately on the line 66 of Fig. 1.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings which illustrate a practical embodiment of my invention, 10 designates the body of the holder, said body being formed of a rectangular section of comparatively thin sheet metal which is resilient to a certain degree, and stamped from the material forming said body are two or more transversely disposed retaining clips or fingers 11, the same being provided with upwardly bent portions 12 immediately adjacent to the points where said fingers unite with the body 10.
Formed in the central portion of the body 10 above, below and between the fingers 11 are long tud nally disposed slots 13 wh ch permit the body 10 to readily flex or bend transversely when pressure is simultaneously applied to the side edges of the body and which operation takes place when it is desired to place an invoice sheet upon the ho der or remove said sheet therefrom, (See Fig. 4.)
Pressed upwardly from the body 10 in alinement with each other and with the upwardly bent portions 12 of the fingers 11 is a row of comparatively small vertically disposed lips 14-, the same performing the functions of stops for the left hand edges of the invoice sheets placed on the holder and beneath the retaining fingers 11.
Pressed upwardly from the upper portion of the body 10 is a series of inverted l.- shaped lips 15, the same serving as keepers or retaining members for a card A, which latter is printed with suitable headings adapted to receive data pertaining to the invoice sheets placed on the holder. Pressed downwardly from the material forming the body 10 of the holder adjacent to the side edges and bottom thereof are substantially L-shaped retaining lips 16-, the
same being adapted to form retaining means for a sheet .or card B, the same being printed with suitable headings for data relative to the invoice sheets positioned upon the holder.
The invoice sheet or sheets C are positioned on the front face of the holder with their left hand edges against the alined stops 14, said invoices being held upon the holder by the retaining fingers 11. Thus,
the invoices are firmly held in a convenient manner and the right hand portions of the sheets can be readily turned upward and over toward the left when the bookkeeper or proper clerk is transferring the data from said sheets to the proper books or permanent records. 7
To place aninvoice sheet upon. the holder or to remove a sheet therefrom, it is only necessary to engage the side edges of the holder between the thumb and fingers and press said edges toward each other, thereby flexing or bending the central portion of the body of the holder upward as illustrated in Fig. 4, thereby raising the free ends of the retaining fingers 11 and with said fingers so positioned, it is a comparatively easy matter to insert or remove the invoice sheet.
The sheets or cards A and B which are retained upon the holder of the lips or retaining members 15 and'16 are adapted to receive data relative to the customers whose invoices are placed upon the holder.
The card A which is readily removable from the retaining lips 15 is preferably providedwith thecustomers name, rating, shipping address, and the like, and is retained on the holder as long as there are any invoices thereupon. l/Vhen all of the invoices have been removed from the holder and vtheaccount is inactive, the corresponding card is removed from the holder and delivcred to thesales manager who can follow departing from the spirit of my invention,
the scope of which is set forth in the appended claims. v 1
I claim: r 1. A device of the class described comprising a plate, a plurality of'retaining fingers transversely arranged thereupon, and
there being a centrally arranged longitudinally disposed row of openings formed in 1 signature this said plate to permit the same to be readily bent transversely.
2. A device of the class described comprising a plate, a plurality of retaining 'fingers transversely arranged thereupon, there being a centrally arranged longitudinally disposed row of openings formed in said plate to permit the same to be readily bent transversely, and a row of stops formed on said plate adjacent to one edge thereof.
3. A device of the class described com prising a plate, a plurality of retaining fingers transversely arranged thereupon. there plate adjacent to one edge thereof, and sheet retaining lips projecting upwardly and downwardly from said plate;
'- 5'. In a device of the class described, a
body comprising a plate of resilient material, there being a centrally arranged longitudinally disposed row of openings formed in said plate to permit the same to be readily bent transversely and sheet retaining means on the face of said plate.
6. In a device'of the'class described, a body comprising a plate of resilient material. there being a centrally arranged longitudinally disposed row of openings formed in said plate to permit the same to be readily bent transversely, and transversely disposed sheet retaining fingers pressed upwardly from the body of said plate.
7. In a device of the class described, a
body comprising a plate of resilient material, there being a centrally arranged longitudinally disposed row of openings formed in said plate to permit the same to be readily bent transversely, transversely disposed sheet retaining fingers pressed upwardly from the body of said plate, and sheet retaining lips pressed upwardly and downwardly from thebody of said plate. r
In testimony whereof Ihereunto a fliir my 3d'day of July, 1917. ROBERT C. BENDER:
