Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view arez to provide means for diffusing, under control, the heat produced by the usual domestic gas burner; and to provide a simplified and economical construction for a lid of the character mentioned.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a portion of the top of a gas stove having appliedthereto a lid constructed and 7 arranged. in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical section of a portion of the top of a gas stove and of a lid constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 3
' is a detail view, on an enlarged scale, showing the bottom or under side of the lid In the embodiment of the invention as disclosed in the drawings, the lid is provided with an edge flange 8 extending below a top 9 to form a pocket or drum for the heat when the lid is in service;
The top 9 is provided with a series of orifices or holes 10, clustered or grouped about a centrally-disposed disk 11. The
' disk 11 is of suflicient area to prevent the concentration of the heat produced in the.
burner of the stove on the utensil resting thereover The purpose of the present lid is principally to avoid this concentration of heat, to which burners of the character indicated are subject. p
The lid proper is provided with a series of internal webs 12. The webs I2 serve to strengthen the construction, and further, to provide a series of shoulders 13 stepped or relatively contracted toward the center of thelid, whereby the lid may be adjusted to fit stove-holes of various dimensions.
It will be understood that the lid is an attachment to be employed in conjunction with gas stoves of usual construction, and that whenplaced thereon, the shoulders 13 are adjusted to the sides of the hole, to register therewith, to avoid the lid sliding im theilm top of the stove; It will also be uriderstood that after the lid has served its purpose, it may be removed from the stove and stored in any convenient place.
Claim: As an article of manufacture, a stovelid embodying a series of relatively large orifices formed in the top thereof, the edges of said lid and from the edge thereof; a pendent flange integrally constructed with said top to prevent the lateral escape of heat or flame, and to support said top above the bars of a stove-hole, when in service; and a plurality of radially-disposed webs extending below said flange and having a plurality of nicks formed therein, said nicks opening outward and being stepped toward-the cen- DAVID F.v PLAEN.
