Description

G` C. PERKINS. WOYEN WIRE MATTRESS.
Patented Nov. 22, 1870..
nach saar GEORGE G. PERKINS, 0F HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
Leners'raent No. 109,446, dared November 22, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT lN WOVEN-WIRE MATTRESSES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part: of the same.
rTo all whom. it may concern I, GEORGE C. PERKINS, of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain improvements in Woven-Wire Fabrics for Mattresses and Cushions, of which the following is a speciicatio'n.
Nature and Objects of thc In rcnl'ion.
My invention consists forming cords of several spiral metallic springs in parallel coils, wound together in the manner hereinafter described; and also in' weaving them into a woven-wire fabric, of any of the usual forms made of coiled wire, for the purpose of stili'eniug such portions as may be necessary or convenient.
Description of thc Accompanying Drawing.
a b c d are the cords of coiled wire woven into and forming part of the whole fabric.
e e e e is that portion of the fabric .between the cords,.and is shown in the drawing of single ivoren coiled-wire.
Gencralescrpton.
until they become solid cords of wire springs, with the exception of leavinga, sntiicient space for the connectionrof the adjoining spirals ofthe web if it is desired to connect them directly therewith.
In the drawing, the intermediate portions e of the hraided\\Veb are shown as formed of single coils of wire, butt-hey may be double, or of any form used in making mattresses, cushions, or the like. The cords of coiled wire may also he connected by a web of any other lnaterial.
Then used for mattresses the stii'l'ening-cords'are placed ucar the edge, t-o give that part greater strength and stiffness. They are also placed at such distances apart all through the fabric as is found necessary, to give it the desired stiffness. 'lhey are intended to be used in such port-ions of the work as are foundto be subject to the most strain, and they may be varied in number' of st-rands, and may hcequally or unequally spaced.
Claims.
What I claim as my invention is 1. An elastic cord, composed ot' a number ot' spiral coils of wire, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the cords of coiled wire, herein described, with a woven-wire fabric, substantially as herein set forth.
GEORGE G. PERKINS.
