WILLIAM RAY WINTERSTEEN, OF DANVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
NEGK-YOKE ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 14, 1914.
Application filed January 23, 1914. Serial No. 813,937.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM RAY WIN improvements in neck yoke attachments and.
the primary object of the invention is to pro vide a device of this character which may be readily and quickly applied to a neck yoke of any desired size and character and one which may be readily removed, when desired.
A further object of the invention resides in providing a device which is simple and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will be very eflicient and useful in operation.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, Figure l is a side elevation partly in section of a device constructed in accordance with my invention and showing the same applied to use. Fi 2 is a front elevation thereof with parts in section. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the same, the pole or shaft being disclosed in section. Fig. 4: is a horizontal section through the device. Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the upper member of the clevice for engagement with the neck yoke proper; and Fig. 6 is a similar view of the lower member of the device for engagement with a pole.
In describing my invention, I shall refer to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which 1 indicates a block formed preferably of wood but which may be formed of metal, as found desirable, the side faces of which are flat and the upper face of which is designed convex. The under face thereof is somewhat grooved and engaged with the side faces of this block are the sides of a bent sheet of metal 2, which is designed to form a loop in connec tion with the under face of said block, whereby to be applied to a pole 3. The bent sides of the sheet 2 which form the loop, together with the block are secured to the faces of said block by means of the bolts 4 which are threaded into position. The rear edges of the faces of the sheet 2 are cut away or offset somewhat, as shown at 5, to form a shoulder for engagement with the shoulder of the pole, whereby to form an abutment for the device on said pole.
The upper convex face of the block 1 is provided with a notch or groove about centrally thereof, as indicated at 6 and fitted in this notch or groove is the base portion of a clamping loop 7, the latter being adapted for engagement with a neck yoke 8. This clamping loop is formed preferably of thin metal andthe base portion thereof has the downwardly projecting wings or cars 9 formed thereon which are bolted to the outer side faces of the sheet or loop 2, by the same means which secures the latteto the block 1. Bolts 10 are adapted to be disposed through the portions of the clamping loop 7, adjacent the free ends thereof, whereby said clamping loop may be adjustably secured to the neck yoke. From this construction, it will be seen that the device may be quickly and readily applied to the pole and neck yoke and readily removed, when desired.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive and effi cient means for carrying out the objects of the invention, and while I have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform. the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.
Having thus described this invention, what I claim is 1. A neck yoke attachment of the class described comprising a block, a plate bent and arranged against the sides of said block to form a sleeve with respect to the latter for the reception of a pole therethrough, a clamping sleeve having depending spaced ears for engagement with the sides of the block, and means to secure said plate to the ears of said clamping sleeve in position on the block.
2. A neck yoke attachment of the class de of the aforesaid sleeve and adapted to re-' ceive a neck yoke therethrough, and means to secure the ears of said clamplng sleeve in position, said last inentloned means also securing portions of the first mentioned plate in position on the block.
A neck yoke attachment comprising a block, a plate bent and arranged against the sides of the said block to form a sleeve with respect thereto for the recepti0n ofa pole therethrough, a clamping sleeve provided with depending ears designed for contact with the sides of the aforesaid plate, the axis of said clamping sleeve being disposed in a plane at right angles to the axis of the firstmentioned sleeve, bolts extending through the block and said plate to secure the latter to said block, one of said bolts also securing the ears of said clamping sleeve to said block, as and for the purpose described. In testimony whereofI hereunto afliX my signature in the presence of two witnesses; WILLIAM RAY WINTERSTEEN. Witnesses CHAS. E. SI-IIRES, Sn, JACOB H. UMST'EAD.
