KEY-GUIDE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 24, 1914.
Application filed ml! 1, 1918. Serial No. 751,5 90.
and useful Improvements in KeyGuides,
of which the-following is a specification.
This invention relates to key guides for the key-hole of doors, gates, windows, and llkti; structures which are provided with loc s.
The principal object of this invention resides in the provision of a device which will guide a key to the key-hole if it is applied to the face late of the lock within a reasonable radius 0 the hole, thereby obviating the difficulty attendant upon inserting a key into a lock in the dark.
A further object of this invention is to construct the key-guide with such regard to proportion, number and arrangement of parts that it may be cheaply manufactured and may be readily and conveniently applied to any lock of standard type.
The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means as are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and then more particularly 1 ointed out in the claim which 1s ap ended ereto and forms a part of this speci cation.
With reference to the drawings, wherein, I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention as it 1s reduced to practice, and throu hout the several viewsof which, similar re erence numerals designate corresponding parts.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the face plate of the standard lock illustrating the key-guide in assembled position; Fi 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; 1g 3 is a rear elevation of the guide in disassembled position.
Proceeding now to the description of the drawmg the numeral 1 designates the face plate 0 a standard lock provided with the customary key-hole 2. The guide member consists referably of a conical shell 3 formed 0 metal or other suitable material and carries at its apex terminal an integrally formed outwardly extending annular securing flange 4, disposed in lateral relation to the longitudinal axis of the conical shell. The member 4 is provided with a plurality of perforations as-at 5 in which are mounted the retaining pins 6. The shell is mounted with the opening at the smaller end in registration with the key-hole 2. In order to permit the insertion of the keytongue in the key-hole a segment of the shell is cut away as at 7 this segmental cut-away portion being disposed to re ister with the ton e receiving portion of t e key-hole.
hat is claimed is A key-guide including a conical shell having an opening formed at the apex thereof, the walls of the shell being provided with a radial outwardly flared segmental opening, the inner end of which is communicant with the said apex opening, an integrally formed outwardly extending securing flange disposed at the apex end ofthe shell and arranged in lateral relation to the longitudinal axis thereof, means for detachably securing' the said flange to the face plate of a lock, said apex opening and segmental opening being of substantially the same size and shape and disposed in registration with the key-hole of the face plate in the assembled position of the guide.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
