' The object of this invention is to provide such agarment that will permit the easy 1nsertion of stiffening members at the breast portions, that will be retained in position without the use of any form of fastening means, so that they can be removed when it is desired to laundry the garment, and as easily replaced, or others substituted.

In the accompanying drawing illustrating one embodiment of my 1nvention:- Figure 1 is a front view of the garment; Fig. 2'shows the inner face of one front portion. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and Figs/t and 5 show forms of stifl'eners. V

In the drawing a waist garment of the type known as a brassiere is shown, comprising a rear part a, and a front part divided into two portions 1) and c, that are; provided with suitable fastemng means to secure them together on the person; the garment also having the usual arm holes d and c. It is usually made of muslin or similar I light weight fabric.

At each of the breast portions is provided an inclosure or pocket, as indicated gen- .erally by the broken circular lines 7 and g in Fig. 1; at which places the fabric of the garment is of double thickness; and by sewing the layers together at such lines a round inclosure or pocket is provided. In each of these inclosures or pockets is contained a member h, formed of a light weight material that is comparatively stifi', and which is dished or shaped convex, of a curvature such as indicated in the sectional view of Fig. 3, to conform to the general shape of the breasts, and to present a, neat and rounded appearance. These stifiening members may be provided with small holes j, for

ventilation, so as to be cool to the wearer;

and may also have a central opening is, to prevent undue pressure at that part of the straight margins of the pieces breast. Also, holes m may be formed in the margins to enable the stitfeners to be stitched in position when desired.

To facilitate easy and rapid removal of the stiffening members h, a pocket is shown on each side part b and c, of substantially circular shape, composed on one face of two pieces of fabric a and 0, whose free edges meet or overlap on a chord p of the circles f and g; these two pieces being secured to the garment by sewing on the circles f and g; preferably on the inner face of the garment, so-that the openings for the pockets are on the inside of the garment, as shown in Fig. 2. A round pocket is thus provided at each breast portion of the garment, into each of which one of the stiffening members It is inserted with the convex side outward; that will be securely retained in such position, and will be entirely inclosed in the garment. When it is desired to laundry the garment, these members 71, can be easily removed through the pocket at the chord or line p; and as easily replaced in the pockets. These stiffening members 72. may be formed out of any suitable material that is com paratively stiff. I have found that a stiff heavy form of an open mesh fabric known 7 as buckram is well adapted for these stifi'eners, as shown in Fig. 4; as it is of light weight, and the openings between the weft and warp provide excellent ventilation. Or a stiffening material of felt, or celluloid, or

the-like can be employed, as indicated in Fig. 5.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A waist garment provided at each ofthe breast portions with a pocket that has one face formed of two substantially semi-circular complemental pieces which are secured to the garment by their curved margins only to form a substantially circular ockct, the eing free and substantially coincident, and circular stiffening members of concave convex form one removably inserted in each said pocket at said free margins and the stiifenin membcrsbeing retained in position on t e garment solely by the members forming the pockets.
