To all whom t may concern.:

Be it known that I, FRANKLIN E.. linNnT, a citizen of the United States, resldmg at Galion, in the county of Crawford and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sealing Means for Vaults; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

4 This invention relates to vaults and particularly to burial vaults, the object of the invention being to provide a vault of this character ofcomparatively simple and economical construction and particularly with a simple and secure joint between 1ts side and end walls. 4

With this object' in View, the invention consists in the improved construction, ar-

rangement and combination of the partsof a device of the character specified, whlch will be hereinafter fully described, and

.afterward specifically claimed.

In order that the construction and operation thereof may be readily comprehended, I will now proceed to fully describe my invention in connection with the. accompanying drawing, which illust-rates an approved embodiment thereof, and which drawing represents a vertical sectional View on a plane extending longitudinally through the vault, the middleV portion being broken out to shorten the figure.

Referring to this drawing, the body of the vaultV comprises a tubular'member 5, a fixed closure or rear wall -6 and a front door frame 7. .These several members may be made from any suitable material, but preferably from one of the baser metals, and they may be cast or forged, as referred. Tho tubular member 5 is rovide with a ertures 8 adjacent to` bot ends, while t e end members 6 and 7 are each provided with laterally extending flanges 9 and 10, the latter forming the eriphery of each end mem-l ber, while the anges 9 are spaced apart from the lian es 10 suiliciently to receive the respective ends ofthe member 5 and allow considerablespace around said ends. tween said flanges, for a purpose which will hereinafter be apparent. Into these spaces is placed plastic material 12 which will harden and secure the elements' 5, 6 and 7 rigidly in unison. This material may consist lof sulfur, cement, lead, or other suitable material. When the material 12 is placed in the peripheral grooves between the langes 9 and 10, it is worked into the apertures 8, so as to form al locking bar or bolt 13 through said apertures, and it will be seen that the inwardly curved` portions of the flanges 10 coact with the bolts 13 for preventing disengagement of the members 5, 6 and 7. It is also obvious that the material 12 entirely prevents the entrance-or escape of air. or

The end member or frame 7 is provided with inwardly converging door seats 14 and 15 while a movable' door 17 is providedwith inclined side surfaces fitting therein, secured by lookin bolts 21 operated by the volute cam 26. nyo'ther suitable form of frame, door and securing mechanism maybe used.

It will be seen that I have provided a device cf this character which is fullyv capable of attaining the foregoing objects, and in a thoroughly practical and ef'cient manner.

I do not limit my invention to the exact details of construction, combination and arrangements of parts, as herewith illustrated and described, but my invention may only be limited by a reasonable interpretation of the claim.

In a vault comprising side walls, an end closure having its outer edges curved inward .into substantially semi-elliptic form with the extreme edge resting upon the side walls at a distance from their ends, said end walls being provided with perforations in that portlon inclosed by the curved inward edges of the end closure, an inwardly projecting Hange on the inside of the closure at distance from its edge parallel with and spaced away vfrom the side walls, and a plastic sealing the s ace between the curved edges and angeo the closure and forming retaining bars 1n the perforations of the side walls.
