UNDERGARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
ltatented Sept. 23, 1913.
Application tiled August 26, 1912. Serial No. 717,058.
To all whom t may] concern:
Be it lcnown that I, Cmnrmon F. Sonor/rz, a eitizenot the United States, residing at Reading, in the. county ot Berto; and State ot Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Undergarments7 ot which the following iS a Specification.
This invention relates to inunm'ements in umlergarments and it is particularly applieable to union. suits made ot tubular bodies. ln making garments oit this eharaeter, the diameter oit the tubular member l'roin whieh the garment. is made, doeS, to a certain extent, limit the variation that; may exist, with eom't'ort, between the waist and hip measurement. ln my present invention, l. a'm able to seeure, from a tubular member of unit'orm dianleter, a suitI having a relatively small waist diameter while the hip measurement is relatively larger.
The invention eonsiata` Vprimarily in the particular manner ot cutting the Vtabrie.
'lhe invention is more Vfully deaerihed in the following' speeiliration and elearly illu trated .in the aeeoinpanying drz'iiving7 which shows m- Figure l, a blank: tubular meinher `t'roin whieh the suit is to be eut. Fig. 2 shows the tube utter the lirst operation. Fig. 5l is a rear view ot the suit, as it will appeal' when totded alongjv the tenti-al dotted line in l `i} j. 2. Fig. f ia a rear view ot the suit with the rear lee-and Seat portions in position.
rl`he numeral l designates a tubular body, ot uniform diameter troni whieh the suit 'these member4 are plaeed 'in large numherf-i in a pile and eut to the t'orm :shown in hie'. L. Thil lallows the neel( por tion il and ehoulder straps -^l eut out at the top7 while at a point about i'nidway ot' its length, or at the point deeided upon ltor the waiet lino, the members are ent in a straight horizontal line in to the vertical center. indie-ated by numeral 5. From this central point7 at the inner end of the line 5, the members are eut away at onosido with a sweeping or curved lino (l, the Curve or contour o't whieh will determine, the, hip mwisurement in the, finished garment.
When the bodies` are ont as above de- Seri'ied, they are opened and folded along' the line .frm-af, assumingl the lShape illustrated in Fig. 3, whieh shows the upper or body portion made up of the tubular portion of the member while the front leg portions will be considerably larger across the hip line, due, to the ein-ved cutting line t3. The rear let,r and seat portions 7 ot' the garment are then attaehed to the garment by Stitehinel aereas the baehr and down the outeide of eaeh leg, as indieated hy the heavy dotted lines 10.
It is evident that with this construction, the hip eize may be inoreastal very materially while the body portion is smaller, thus` overeominzgr undue strain on the seat and hip portions of the suit, preventing gaping, and insuring eomtort.
.t lmion `'arnufnt comprising a tubular hedy portion and an integral `troni; dependineA portion` said depending portion increasing in width, throughout its` length7 trom one-haltI ol the entire eireuin't'erenee of the tubular body portion to a width greater than one'hall the eirenmterenee ot' the tubular body portion` Said depemline portion beine; slit throughout a portion ot its length and being turned out trom the body portion to torni only the entire `trout halves ot the legs ot the garment; and two seotions seamed to the edgee ot' the 't'ront l-ialvef; of the legs and to the rear ol' the body portion aeross the entire width ol' said body portion, said seelione toi-ming; the entire rear portions ol the, lee; portions and having; overtapped treeedggjo portions l'| .rmin;,;' a elohure Vtor the rear ol the garment.
In testimony whereot" t allix my signature in preeenee ot' two witnesses.
