POLE-TIP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 2, 1912.
ilatented Sept. 2, 1913.
Serial No. 734,570.
1 '0 all whom it may concern Be it known that we, SAMUEL K. ANDER- son and JOHN LONG, residing at South Auburn, in the county of Nemaha and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pole-Tips; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to tips for draft poles or tongues for all kinds of vehicles and agricultural implements; and it consists of a split clamping collar provided with tongues and secured to the pole as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a portion of a draft pole provided with a tip according to this invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same; and Fig. 3 is an end view.
The front end portion 2 of the draft pole is provided with a split clamping collar 3 having lugs 4, and 5 is a clamping belt which passes through holes in the lugs and clamps the collar after it has been slid to a suitable position on the pole.
The collar is provided with a split tongue 7 which projects from it longitudinally and in line with its lugs. The collar has also a tongue 8 which projects from the opposite side of it from the split tongue and in the opposite direction.
Both tongues 7 and 8 are shaped to lit against the pole, and fastening screws 9 may be inserted if desired, but these screws are not usually necessary.
The upper tongue prevents the neck-yoke from wearing away the wood of the draft pole, and the lower tongue prevents the neck-yoke ring from wearing away the wood of the pole. These pole tips are made of any suitable metal, and in sizes adapted to dilierent kinds of draft poles.
What we claim is:
1.. A tip for a draft pole, comprising a split collar adapted to be clamped on the pole and having tongues projecting longitudinally from it in opposite directions and arranged upon opposite sides of its axis.
2. A tip for a draft pole, comprising a split collar provided with lugs and a split tongue on one side of its axis and adapted to he clamped to the pole and having a tongue on the other side of its axis, said tongues projecting longitudinally from it in opposite directions.
In testimony whereof we allix our signatures, in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL K. ANDERSON. JOHN LONG.
