TOILET-PAPER HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 12,1913.
Application filed April 1, 1913. Serial No. 758,211.
T 0 aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that we, SAMUEL J. Burns and ALBERT B. HUBBARD, citizens of the United States, residing at Berkeley and Oakland, California, respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Paper Holders, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention is designed to provide a simple inexpensive and effective holder for a roll of toilet paper, and it consists in the features and combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of our invention, Fig. 2 is a plan View, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
In these drawings 1 is the main frame consisting in its preferred form of a back or base piece 1 and forwardly extending arms 2. lVhile these may be variously made and of different kinds of material, we prefer to use simply a piece of fiat strap metal bent at right angles to form the base and the projecting arms. This frame supports the roller carrying frame composed of wire, which frame is of U shape, one arm 3 passing through openings in the arms 2 and along the front face of the main portion, this arm being adapted to rotate in said openings while the other arm 5 carries the roller 6 on which the roll of paper may be placed by thrusting it over the end of the roller. By reason of the U shaped form of the frame with the roller supported on its free end the roll of paper may be placed in the roller by simply lifting the U shaped frame and then pushing the paper roll onto the same from one end. The free end of the U shaped frame is supported by the arms 2. These arms thus perform a double function, 77. 6., that of supporting the U shaped frame with the roll of paper and further that of serving as guards at the sides of the paper roll when in place to hold said roll in proper position on the roller (3.
Preferably we provide recesses in the upper edges of the arms 2 to receive the free arm of the U-shaped frame, and we prefer to form the ends of the arms 2 with their upper edges slightly bent outwardly, as shown at 7.
The roller 6 is held on the arm of the U- shaped pivoted frame by any suitable means, such as the collar or rib 8.
The supporting frame may be constructed differently from that shown, but in either case at least one forwardly extending arm will be employed to act as a support for the roller carrying frame and. as a guard for the roller.
We claim 1. A holder for a toilet paper roll consisting of a frame having a base portion with a forwardly projecting arm, a U-shaped frame having one arm rotatively mounted in the frame, a roller mounted on the free arm of said U-shaped frame, said U-shaped frame being supported at its free end by said arm, substantially as described.
2. A holder for a toilet paper roll com prising a frame consisting of a base portion with forwardly extending arms, a U-shaped frame having one arm rotatively mounted in the forwardly extending arms, a roller on the free arm of said U-shaped frame, said free arm resting on the forwardly projecting arms of the main frame, substantially as described.
3. A holder for a roll of toilet paper consisting of a base and forwardly extending arms bent up from a fiat strip of metal, a wire frame of U-shape having one arm rotatively mounted in the forwardly extend ing arms of the main frame, the free arm of said U-shaped frame being supported by the arms of the main frame and a roller on said free arm, substantially as described.
4. A holder for a roll of toilet paper consisting of a main frame having a base and forwardly extending arms and a U-shaped frame luwing an arm rotatively mounted in the main frame and the arms of said main frame having notches to receive the free arm of said U-shaped frame, and a roller on said free arm, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, we aflix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL J. BENS. ALBERT B. HUBBARD.
