Description

S. L. BLIGH. HAND CORN HUSKER.
No. 106,311. Patented Aug. 16, 1870.
taut-ea fitates SAMUEL L, BLIGH, 0F SANDY LAKE, PENNSYLVANIA.
.Letters Patent No. 106,311,-datd August 16, 1870,-
IMPROVED HAN D CORN-HUSKER.
'lfl re Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and leaking part 0! the same.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAM L L. Bntemof Sandy Lake, in the county of Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Corn-. Husker; and I do hereby declare that thelbllo'wing is a full, clear, and eicact description thereof which will .enable others skilled in the art to make and use the sarne, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which the drawing represents a perspective view of my iin proved,corn-hnsker. Theo'hject of this invention is to construct an instrumentlby means of which the hnsking of corn can he' accomplished in an easy and expeditions manner. 1
The invention consists in the new arrangement of To the face of the plate B is, by a pin, (1, pivoted a knife, D, which, with its curved cutting-edge c, is
opposite the fixed blade 0-, to form a pair of shears with'the same.
Tothe opposite side of the plate Bis pivoted another knife, E, whose curved cutting-edge f is opposite the blade'b, to operate in conjunction with the same.
A spring, 9, may be applied for the purpose of hold-- ing the shear E I; open. I -h It are hooks or prongs projecting from the blade b, for the purpose of tearing the husk.
To use the instrument, it is grasped in the. right hand, with the thumb in or on the handle i of the knife E, and one finger in the handlej of the knife I). The butt of the ear of corn is now inserted in sin-h manner that the knife D will close against the stem near the butt, while the knife E embraces the 'thick part of the butt.
. The thumb is first used to apply the shears E. b. At the same time the instrument is turned so that the shears E b will cut; through the husk, while the hooks htear the same loose from the corn, which can then be thrown off by the left hand, which held the huskat the point of'the, ear. The lmii' D is then pressed against the blade a, to sever the ear from the stem.
Having thus described my invention,
.I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The hand corn-husker herein described, consisting of the plate B, knives-D E, and hooks lt all constructed substantially as specified, and arranged to operate in the manner set forth.
