JOSEPH BLOCH, OF NEW YORKVN. Y.
ooi/IBINED BUCKLE AND BOX.
Application filed February 4, 1911. Serial No. 606,566.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOSEPH BLOCH, a citizen of the United States, residing Jat New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Buckle and Box, of which the following is a specification.
This invention .relates generally to belt buckles and more particularly to a novel construction of buckle which embodies a box or receptaclel in combination with the .buc-
'- kle, said box or receptaclel being so conbeing subdivided and'one portion thereof` f tained .within the compartment. Fig. 3 is` structed and arranged as to be utilized for a combined purse and vanity bag or box.
The object of my invention -is to pro;9
Vide a buckle in the form of a box, said box capable of receiving and holding powder, while the other portion is provided with means for holding a series of small coins. And another'object of myinvention `is to construct the parts in such a manner so l that when the buckle is open for use as a .purse or vanity. box it will be maintained in 'a horizontal position thereby avoiding the dangerof the contents falling out.
Another object of my invention is toprovide aclip in connection -with the buckle,
which clip can be-utilized for holding car tickets -or the like.`
With these various Objects in view my invention consists'in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement all bf which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings forming a part of this specication: Figure 1 is a view showingthe practical application of my invention. Fi 2 is a detail perspective view of the buckle opened, one corner .of the mirror being broken away to disclose the powder cona transverse sectional view taken through the buckle when closed and Fig. 4 isl alongitudinal sectional view taken through the buckle in the same condition.
In carrying out my invention lI employ a plate A provided with vvertical'slots A at v each end, and into oneslot, one end of the belt B, is adapted to be secured, while thel bther slot is engaged by the hook B carried i at the Opposite end of the saidbelt B. A
Specification of Letters Patent.
'be used.
Patented May 13, 1913.
box or receptacle C is connected to the plate A by meansof spring hinges D, said 'box being connected to'said/ plate adjacent its lower edge, and any suitable form of catch V E may be arranged or employed upon the upper edge ofthe plate A for the. purpose of engaging and fastening the box C When said box is'closed up against thel plate A as most clearly shown in' Fig. 3.
The moment the catch E is released from the box or'receptacle C the spring hinges :throw the said box down to a horizontal po IsitionI shown in Fig. 2, and it will be. noted that the rear side of the box bearts against the plate along itslower edge and this engagement of the rear side of the box with the plate .serves to maintain the said box in its correct horizontal position. This box can be utilized for various purposesjand in the drawing I have shown a lpartition vC dividing the receptaclev into two compartments, one being provided with coin holders C2 while in the other a powder box C4 is employed having a cover C5, which isI preferably a mirror and which can be detached by means of the handle C so that the mirror can be used to advantage; and if desired space can vbe provided for, the accommodation of a small` Hat powder pu" or a piece of chamois. Upon the rear side of the plate A,
I arrange spring clips F, which are designed to receive and hold car tickets or similar articles.
It will of course be understood that this l buckle can be used for other purposes besides a belt buckle and` if desired can be used as a. garter buckle rand in fact can be used wherever any .other form of buckle could I/Vhat I claim is:
The combination with a having a hinged l'd, said lid being of greaterlength than the box and adapted to being transversely slotted, for the"purpose of receiving 'end portions of said belt; the saidlid spacing said end portions apart. a JOSEPH BLOCH.
