LEONARD L. CONKEY, 0F GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
VETERINARY OPERATING-TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 22,1913.
Application filed October 12, 1911. Serial No. 654,394.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD L. CONKEY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing atGrand Rapids, in the countyof Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Veterinary Operating-Tables; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in veterinary operating tables, and more particularly to such tables for operating on small animals, and its object is to provide a table having various features of adjustment and appliances, and to provide the same with certain new and useful features hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device embodying my invention; Fig. 2 an end elevation of the upper part of the same with a portion broken away; Fig. 3 the same differently adjust-ed; Fig. 4 a detail showing another different adjustment; Fig. 5 a plan view of the lower part of the device; and Fig. 6 a detail in vertical section of a portion of the device.
Like numbers refer to like parts in all of the figures.
1 represents a tubular pedestal having an internal screw thread and provided with radially extended supporting legs 2. This pedestal and the legs are preferably an integral casting.
3 is a screw threaded standard inserted in the pedestal and vertically adjustable therein by rotating the standard. The top of the standard is provided with a yoke l in which is pivoted a head 5 having a holding segment 7 adjustably held by a set screw 8 to determine the position of the head about its pivot 6. On opposite ends of the head is a flange 9 to which is pivoted diverging and adjustable arms 10, as at 11. These arms are provided with slotted segments 12 and are independently adjusted about the axis of the pivot 11 and held by means of a clamping screw 12 extending through the slots in the segments. Pivoted to the upper end of each arm 10 are hinge members 13 pivoted to each other as at 27. Plates 14 are secured to the hinge members 13 and near the outer edge of each plate is supported a rod 15 by means of brackets 16 attached to the plates.
17 is a trough beneath the adjacent edges of the plates to receive any fluid that may drain from the same. The upper edges of this trough slidably engage the members 13 to permit the same to move freely about their pivots 27 and the trough is supported in place by means of contractile coil springs 18 having their ends attached to hooks 19 on hinges 13* secured to the respective ends of the plates 14.
By adjustment of the arms 10 toward and away from each other the hinged edges of the plates 14- are raised or lowered and when the arms are moved apart the plates will approach a more nearly horizontal position,
and by moving the arms toward each other the adjacent edges of the plates will descend into the trough and the plates rise and approach each other at their outer edges, forming a BJ-shaped trough or support; or the arms at one side and the plate carried thereby may be moved toward the horizontal position while the other plate may be adjusted more nearly vertical. By turning the head 5 about its pivot either end of the plates may be lowered and the other end raised as occasion may require. The upper part of the device may also be rotated about a vertical axis or the device raised or lowered as preferred.
hen an animal is placed 011 the device it can be secured by straps or cords to the rods 15 as occasion may require, and by the various adjustments described as can be brought into any convenient position for operating upon the same.
For supporting wash bowls, soap and towel for various purposes sleeves 20 and 21 are provided which are freely rotative about the standard 3 and rest on the top of the column 1. To the sleeve 21 is attached a bar 22 supporting an arm 23 on which arm towels may be hung, and mounted on this arm is a soap receptacle 24:. Mounted on the sleeve 20 are bands 25 which extend outward therefrom and are each formed in a ring to receive and support any suitable wash bowl 26 for containing water, two being provided, one for hot water and one for cold water.
From the foregoing, the operation of the device is obvious without further description.
What I claim is 1. A veterinary operating table, comprising two plates hinged to each other at adjacent edges, diverging and independently adjustable arms supporting the plates and a pivoted and adjustable head supporting the arms.
2. A veterinary operating table, comprising two plates hinged to each other at adj acent edges, diverging and independently adjustable arms supporting the plates, brackets attached to the outer edge of each plate, and rods supported by the brackets.
A veterinary operating table, comprising two plates hinged to each other at adjacent edges, diverging and independently adjustable arms supporting the plates and a trough supported by the plates below the hinged edges of the same.
41-. A veterinary operating table, comprising two plates hinged to each other at adjacent edges, rods attached to the outer edges of the plates and spaced apart therefrom, inde iiendently adjustable diverging arms supporting the plates and a trough supported by the plates beneath the adjacent edges of the same.
5. A veterinary operating table, comprising two plates hinged to each other at adjacent edges, diverging independently adjustable arms supporting the plates, a trough supported by the plates beneath the adjacent edges of the same and a pivoted and adjustable head supporting the arms.
6. A veterinary operating table, comprising a vertically adjustable standard, a yoke at the top of the same, a head pivoted in the yoke, means for adjusting the head about its pivot, two pairs of diverging arms pivoted to the respective ends of the head eachpair being independently adjustable, hinge mem- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
bers supported by the arms and plates mounted on said members.
7. A veterinary-operating table, comprising a vertically adjustable standard, a yoke on the standard, a head pivoted in the yoke,
a segment 011 the head adjustable in the yoke,
a screw in the yoke engaging the segment, flanges on the respective ends of the head, diverging arms independently pivoted on the flanges and having slotted segments, screws in the slots of thesegments to hold the arms adjusted, hinge members pivoted to the arms and to each other, plates mounted on said members with their adjacent edges spaced apart and a trough supported beneath said edges.
S. A veterinary operating table, comprising two plates, hinge members connecting adjacent edges of said plates, diverging and independently adjustable arms supporting said hinge members, a trough slidably engaging said hinge members and contractile springs connected to the plates and supporting the trough.
9. A veterinary operating table, comprising two plates hinged to each other at adja cent edges, a trough beneath said edges and slidably engaging the hinges, contractile springs supporting the trough and connected to the plates, diverging independently adjustable arms supporting the plates, a head having flanges at the respective ends to which the arms are pivoted and adjustably secured, a vertically adjustable and rota'tive standard having a yoke in which the head is pivoted and means for adjusting and holding said head.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
