To all 'Lo/wm t may concern Be it known that I, HERMAN J. IIEGWER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have inve-nted cert-ain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Advertising-Machines, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to display machines, and has for its object the production of a display machine for successively exposing a series of cards, containing pic tures and the like.

Another object of this invention is the production of an eflicient hub for supporting the card carrying arms whereby said arms will be yieldably supported upon said hub.

The principal object of this device is to display advertising, although it may be used for a variety of other purposes.

Vith these and other objects in view this,

invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements oit parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawings by numerals 1 designates the cylindrical case which is supported upon the base 2. This cylindrical case 1 is provided with a suitable display window 3 having a shield glass 4. A shaft 5 is car ried in the center of the case 1 and is supported upon the journals 6, which journals 6 are supported upon the side walls 7 of the case 1. These side walls 7 'are flanged along the edges thereof for facilitating the securing of the side walls to the cover 8. A channel pocket 9 is carried by the front end of the case 1 in which the edge of the glass 4 rests. This glass 4 is held therein by means of a retaining strip 10. A partition 11 is secured to each of the side walls 7 and a lamp Fig. 4 is a sec-v 12 is carried upon each side of the partition 11. Each of the lamps which are in front of the partition 11 is provided with a retlector 13.

Hubs 14 are carried by the shaft 5 and are provided with toothed projections 15 having a. vertical wall 16 and an inclined wall 17a. A resilient packing 17 .is interposed between the vertical wall of one `tooth and the inclined wall of the other tooth. Arms 18 are secured to the hub 14 as at 19 and are interposed between the vertical walls 16 of the teeth 15 and the packing 17 as illustrated in Fig. 11. Each of the arms 18 is provided with a loop 2O in which is secured' the rod 21 upon which rod is suspended the card holder 22.

The card holder as illustrated in Fig. 8 consists of a rectangular frame having journals 23 at the top which engage the rods 21, Card engaging clips 24 are carried by the top and bottom of the frame 22 as illustrated in Figs. 8 and 9. Stop brackets 25 are carried by the trames 22 and overhang the frame as illustrated in Fig. 9, having its back section 26 secured to the frame 22. By carefully considering Fig. 2 it will be seen that the stop bracket 25 engages the projecting portion 27 of the cover 1 and as the hub 14 continues to revolve the frame which is in iront of the opening 3 will be quickly thrown inwardly through the medium of the stop bracket 25, thereby throwing the :trame 22 out of the way and allowing the next 'trame to come into position. The transverse rod 28 will assist in throwing the frame 22 farther inwardly. A stop block 29 is carried at the bottom oit' the opening 3 and is adapted to be engaged by the lower end of the frame 22.

Inclined compressing plates 30 are carried by each side plate 7 having their flanges 31 secured to said side plates. The free ends of the arms 18 are adapted to travel upon the inclined walls or plates 80, and the arms 18 will be bowed as illustrated in Fig. 2. A buling roller is carried by the case 1 near the forward end of each plate 30 and it will be obvious, that as the arms 18 are released the frames 22 of the respective arms will be thrown to such a position as to be viewed through the opening 3.

A ratchet wheel 31 is carried by one of the hubs 14 which is rotated by means of the pawl 32 engaging the same, said pawl 32 being carried by the arm 33. The pawl is held in engagement with the ratchet `31 by means of a spring 34. A second pawl 35 is carried by the case 1 and engages the ratchet 31 for preventing the rotation thereof in the opposite direction.

A motor 36 is carried by the base 2 and through the medium of the gears 37 Land 38 the worm 39 is driven, which worm in turn drives the geary 40. A substantially U shaped frame 41 supports the worm 39 and the shaft 42. A frame 43 is carried by the base 2 and is provided with laterally eX- tending fingers or journals 44. A shaft 45 is carried bv the journals 44 and has its upper end connected to the link 46, which link engages at its upper end the arm 33. A col-- lar 47 is carried b v the shaft 45 and a spring Y 48 is interposed between the lower journal 44 and the collar 47 for exerting an upward pressure upon the collar 47. An adjustable hook'or lug 48 is carried by the worm wheel and as this wheel rotates this lug 48 engages the extension 49 of the arm 50 carried by the lower end of the shaft 45. It will therefore be obvious that as the link 46 is reciprocated the hubs 14 will be rotated thereby causing the device to operate through the medium of the motor 36, which motor may be of any desired construction.

The casing 1 is provided with a Vdoor 51 which is held closed by means of a latch 52. What I claim is v 1. In an advertising machine, the combination with a motor, a casing, a shaft carried by said casing, hubs carried by said casing, spring arms carried by said hubs, card v Y supporting frames pivoted to the outer ends of said arms, and folding means carried by said frame for folding said frames under said arms.

2. In an advertising machine, the combination with a motor, a casing having an Vopening therein, a shaft, hubs carried tliereby, arms carried by said hubs, toothortions formed upon said hubs, resilient bu ers positioned between said tooth portions and engaging said arms for yieldably supporting the same, means for compressing said arms, and means for controlling the rotation of said shaft. l

3. An advertising device comprising a cas Ylng, a shaft, arms carried by said shaft, in-

clined tracks carried by said casing and being adapted to engage the ends of said arms for bowing the same whereby when4 said arms are released from said tracks said arms will fly to their correct position, frames carried by said arms, buffer rollers carried near the forward end of each of said tracks, and means for driving said shaft.
