To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VICTOR A. FEGRE, a

citizen of the United' States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in F ront-Laced.

Corsets, of which the following `is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of this invention is to provide an attachment fory corsets by which a-corset may be worn as an ordinary corset or converted into a front laced corset, and whereby also, a corset made to a certain measure or size for ordinary wear without the' attachment may be temporarily or otherwise enlarged in size.

In the simplest venabodiment of my invention, I provide an attachment comprising a pair of eyeleted bones, steels, or stays adapted to receive -lacings for permanently and adjustably connecting them together',

Fig. 2 is an elevation of the attachment detached.- Fig. 3 is an elevation showing a modification, and Fig. 4 is a lfragmentary perspective view illustrating the vapplication of the modification.

. The halves of the corset 1 may be ofany usual or approved construction, either with or without the ordinary back lacing appliances 2. The fronts of' these` halves are I supplied with any usual stay 3, having the eyes v4, and the stay 5 having the heads or buttons 6, adapted to be clasped together to fasten the corset about the person.

The attachmentof this invention has -two 4 eyeleted strips 7 and 8, in which are applied the lacings'9 adjustable in any usual manner and permanently connecting the strips. The strip 7 is provided with a stay 10, inclosed therein, having heads or buttons 1-1, andthe strip 8 has inclosed in it thestay 12 provided with the eyes 13, so that the device equipped as shown in Fig. 2, may be detachably fastened inl the front of a corset toits permanent stays, and thus` convert the corset, .irrespective of its back construction, intoa frontblaced corset; and at the same time the' application ofthe attachment enlarges the waist measure. The owner of a back laced corset desiring to use the -front laced attachment might make up for the increase in size by taking in the corset by means of the back lacings. l

I have merely indicated wit-hout fully showing the application o the hose supporter straps to the attachment as well as to the corset itself. In order to adaptV the front laced attachment to corsets having a variety of stays differing from the stays on the attachment, itis necessary to supply the attachment with eXtra or independent stays that can be sewed on to the corset in lplace 'of the stays'already on it, and this fea,-

ture of my inventionl is clearly illustrated .in Figs. 3 and 4, where 14 and 15 are the extra stays having the edge strips 16 and 17 on their inclosing pieces of cloth and the usual complemental eyes 18 and heads 19; and as shown in Fig. 4, it is intended to use this construction on a corset by. cutting out fthe. misfit stays that may be on it 4and .replacing them by the'stays 14 and which are sewed to the edges of the corsetfrom which the misfit stays have been" removed,

through the medium of their strips 16 and 17.

The foregoing and other variations by which the invention may be applied to all styles of ordinary corsets are within the scope and intent of the invention as hereinafter claimed. n

A great objection to the ordinary front laced corset is that it vhas no opening in the back over. the spine, and this is considered to be detrimental 'to the health and is severely -criticised by many reputable physicians. Moreover, the ordinary front laced corset has a lopsided appearance in front. These objections are overcome by my invention, inasmuch .as it gives a wellproportioned and symmetrical frontl and -permits of the retention of the back open-4 ing. My device also lends itself yreadily-to any adjustment of the corset that the wearer may desire, since it is open and laced both in the front and in the back. .The corset may lbe readily tightened or loosened above or below the waistv line,- as well as in the Waist line. The abdominal vand hip portions of the torso may lbe readily compressed and reduced, and the abdomen held up and supported. The corset in all of 'it'svparts"A4 may be easily adjustedso as toconform to the body, smoothing out all jogs and angles and thus rounding out the ligure .into graceful lines.

vBy the use -of the -device a greatsaving is effected in that it enables the Amanufacturer vor dealer at a comparatively small extra cost to fit twice as many customers from the `same quantity of stock of corsets on hand'l as wasvpossible before. Each one of these attachments fitted to a back laced corset will vrender that corset a front laced as well asA a backlaced corset, and, besides, add from two to four inches to its size.

' Its vuse doubles the manufacturer-s or dealer?s styles and more than doubles his sizes. The double lacing, at front and back, -e'nables the wearer, without the assistance of another person, to adjust the tension on any portion-of the torso so as to give the utmost sense of feeling of comfort. While I pre! fer to use lacings in .the attachment, I may replace them by other connecting or adjusting mediums.

The invention is not limited to eyes and4 heads as the clamping mediums, as it is obvious that other approved forms of detachable. or separable complemental fastening devices may be used insteadthereof.
