Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 1, 1912.
Application filed May 3, 1912. Serial No. 694,984..
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY C. WELTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement 'in Powder Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this ap plication, and represent, in
Figure l a front view of a powder box constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 a side view of the upper part of the box, enlarged. Fig. 8 a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 4 a transverse sectional view through the hinge.
This invention relates to an improvement in powder boxes, and particularly to boxes of metal having a perforated top through which the contents are discharged, and a hinged cover closing the top.
The object of this invention is to provide simple means for securing the cover in position, and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.
The box 2 may be of any approved design provided with a cap 3 having a round neck 4 and a perforated top 5. In the neck below the top is anannular groove 6, and on one sldethis groove is struck inward forming a notch 7 The cover 8 is provided on one side with a knuckle 9 and at the opposite side with a finger-piece 10, and the cover is hinged to the neck by a wire ring 13 passing through the knuckle 9 and having its ends 11 and 12 turned into the notch 7 by which the ring is locked with the neck. This provides for hinging the cover to the neck without perforating the sides of the neck, and, as will be seen, is extremely cheap in construction.
The herein described powder box comprising a body and cap, said cap formed with a round neck and a perforated top, said neck formed with an annular groove, a notch formed in the groove at the front of the neck, a cover provided with a knuckle, and a wire ring extending through said knuckle and having its ends turned into said notch whereby the cover is hinged to the neck.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HARRY C. *WELTON.
