PLlSTER-BARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
'To all whom if may concern Sttte.oitlllinois here invented certain new and usei'ullinprovements inLPleeter-Board,
which the'toilowing, is specification.
\ This invention relates tore plaster boord, and. sims to produce e board Whichshall be more substantial, durable end ecient than any plaster board heretofore manufactured, which will give better resultsend more sstis'ioctory service 4 in use, und will better withstand lthe handling end rough usage 'to which all pls-ster board is necessarily subjectedf i The present applica-tion constitutes e di- `vision .of my prior application, Serial No. 635,234, tiled inne 26th, 1911.,
My invention further sims to produce a plaster boer-d the edges of which will be entirely inclosed by e sheet of covering material, end which Will have no free or exposed edges ot the covering materiel such as would be liable to be torn, loosened or peeled back in the handling of the board.
My invention consists in certain novel features7 oi? constructions hereinafter described 'and more particularly pointed out in the claims, references being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specitic'stion, whereon--- Figure 1 is e perspective View of a board embodying my 'Invention showing certain parts broken sway, and Fig. 2 is u transverse sectional View taken through the board shown in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings it will be observed that, upon a large covering sheet 10, which may be of any fibrous material, there disposed the body oif the board consisting of a plurality of layers ot plastic materiel ll eltern-sting with layers ot fibrous meteriel 12 which are of slightly less Width their the seid layers of plastic materiel. The loyers ot' plastic material in extending on either side beyond the layers of brous mayterinl dow together forming n homogeneous 3 reinforced by said -bruus layers.
boe'
4wsrdiy et i3 to form a covering for the side edges of the boord sind at the top of the board the edges is nre turned inwardly over les of thei sheet i0 are turned 11p-- their inner edges and the edges of thecor-i ering whereby the edges of the covering are securely fastened or scaled down. A smooth upper surface is thereby obtained and all of the edges et the covering material are Usecurely sealed ond the corners of the board ure left smooth Without any projecting' edges of covering such as are lett in the construction of boards in which` the 4up er layer of covering extends Hush with or be yond the side edges of the completed board.
.ln the present invention no'exposed or mw edges are lett to-bc caught and drawn or atcntcd Ang. 6,- ii. original applicstiontllel June 26, 191i, Seria! No. Nsse. )Divided end this application filed December peeled back und the strength, durability and lite of the board lis manifestly materially increased.
lt will be evident from the foregoing that i the completed boord is inclosed on both sides und both edges and that the edges of the top sheet of covering material are spaced from the corners of the board( so that they will not be cut or peeled back ,during the handling of the board, and furthermore these edges are securely fastened or sealed down by the plastic material disposed over the inturned portions of the lower coy'erin sheetlO. No exposedy plaster is presente and by reason of the fact that all portions of the'board are inclosed-a uniform 'absorption of moisture from' the nished plaster applied to the Wall at the joints between the plaster boards and over their entire surfeces will take place. The side edges of the plaster board arecstraight and'rue. The sultiiig consequentlyin a saving of peper, plaster and labor. The completed board presents a finished und pleasing appearance und the'cdges are smooth to Ihandle and strong so that the board will not be fractured or injured by drivingnuils therethrough.
l/Vliile l have described in detail my improved boitrd, it will be obvious that various minor mechanical changes in its conthe to :toren inturned inps .1.5. A top i struction may be resorted to Without den.10 the bod overlying said parting from the sirit or sacrificing any of the advantages o the invention.
.IelaimZ-f 1. A plaster board comprising a body, a
5 covering of brous material adhering to' one 'face ofthe body folded to nclose an edge of the body and overlie e ort-ion vof the opposite face thereof, a'n a covering of fibrous materiai for saiefi loip osite face of of the retA mentioned y covering but its, edge spaced from the edge of the boar 2. plaster board comprising e, body, 'a
covering of iibrous 'material adhering to .15 one face of the body folded to' inclose' opposite edges of the bod and loverlie the 'marins of the opposite ece, and a covering of brons material for said opoositeufae of the body overlying said folded-over portions 2o of the first mentioned covering and having its edges spaced from the edges ofthe board.
3. A plaster board comprising a body, a
cover'm of fibrous material for one face of 25 thc boty folded to 'inclosejan edge of the -over lilorton' avm `coverin body and overlie ,the margin of the opposite' 'facefand a. covering of fibrous material for seid ,oppositeace having an edge overlying :the folded over port-ion'of the irst-men tioned covering and ressed inwardly of 3Q, the body 'depressing t edge of the first mentioned coyerin to aiord 'protection for the said edge of t e second-mentioned cov. ering.
