Letters Paten: No. 103,333, dem May 24, '1870.
i IIVIPROVENIEN'YII IN LAYING- MALTING--FLOORS The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
. Be it known that I, CHARLES HOLLMANN, of Union Hill, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey-have invented anew and useful Improvement in Malting-Floors; `and I do 4hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
door, illustrating my invention.
My invention has for its object to improve the construction of malt-ing-floors of artificial stone, so as to.
The figure is a detail cross-sectionv of a limitingprevent the said artiiicial stone from being cracked' and broken by the contraction andexpansion of the wooden ioor upon-Which it is laid; and
It consists in the interposition of paper, cloth, or other suitable material, between the wooden floor and the artificial stone, as hereinafter more fully described.
Heretofore, in forming artificial stone melting-doors, `the material for the artiliciallstone has been spread directly upon the wooden door of the malt-house, and the result has been that the said material has adhered to the said Wooden floor, and the contraction and expansion of the said wooden door have soon cracked the artificial stone.-
This diiiculty I have remedied by the interposition of paper, cloth, or Iother suitable material, A, between the wooden iioor B and the artilicial stone C, to prevent the adhesion ofthe said artiiical stone to the said wooden door:
When ordinary paper is used I prefer to wet it with lime-water, to tonghen it, and prevent its tearing be-` fore the material for the artificial stone is set, the said interposed material being of no farther use after the artitioial stone Ias become' hard.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire vto secure by Letters Patent- Y The intel-position of a layer of paper, cloth, or other suitable material between the wood. and the arti- 'ficial stone of a malting-iioor, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
The above specification ot' my invention signed by me this 17th day of March, 1870.
r Witnesses: CHARLES HOLLMANN. GEO. W. MABEE, i JAMES 'l. GRAHAM.
