CURTAIN-POLE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EARL A. BROCKWAY,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Marienville, in the county of Forest and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention is an improved curtain pole provided with a clamp bar and with means for locking the clamp bar in placeso as to cause the clamp bar to coact with the body of the pole in securing one end of the curtain to the pole and enabling the curtain or shade to be readily released from the pole, the invention consisting in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is partly an elevation and partly a longitudinal sectional view of a curtain pole constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the line aa of Fig. 1, and showing the locking knob in looking position in full lines, and in releasing position in dotted lines.

In accordance with my invention, the curtain pole 1 is provided at one side thereof with a clamp bar 2, which is pivotally connected thereto as at 3, a spring 4 being employed which is located near the pivot 3 and bears between the pole and the clamp bar, the said spring serving to open the clamp bar from the side of the pole to which the clamp bar is pivotally connected.

In the specific form of my invention here shown, the curtain pole forms the major portion of a cylinder, and the clamp bar forms a segment of the cylinder, the pole being provided in one side with a recess the face of which is cross sectionally concave, the clamp bar having its inner side rounded and adapted to fit in the said recess of the pole. Said recess is indicated at 5, and the fixed inner face of the bar 2 is indicated at 6. end of the pole to which the clamp bar 2 is pivotally connected, and the knob 8 being located at the opposite end of the pole. The knob 7 is preferably fixed to the pole. The knob 8 is mounted on the pole for rotation thereon to some extent, and is provided on its inner side with a radial slot 9, the inner portions of the side walls of which form locking shoulders 10. The size of the slot 9 is such as to enable the free end of the clamp bar 2 to move therein when the said slot is in line with the said clamp bar. Assuming that the clamp bar has been closed against the recessed side of the curtain pole, and one end of a curtain has been'clamped between the curtain pole and the clamp bar, the knob 8 is then turned a sufficient distance to cause the slot 9 to move to one side of the clamp bar, and hence one of the shoulders 10 or portion of the wall of the bore of the said knob 8 will engage the outer side of the end of the clamp bar, and thereby lock the latter in place and cause the same to coact with the curtain pole in securing the curtain to the pole.

In order to release the curtain it is only necessary to partly turn the knob 8 so as to cause the slot 9 to aline radially with the bar 2, and the spring 4 will then immediately open the said clamp bar 2 and permit the removal of the curtain from the pole.

IVhile I have herein shown and described what I now regard as a'preferred embodiment of my invention, I will have it understood that minor changes in the form, proportion and construction of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention and within the scope of the appended claim.
