To all "whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, MARTIN H. PARICHAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at litanchester, in the county of Hillsborough and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtam-Fixtures; and 1' do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in curtain fixtures, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be attached to a window casing without screws or nails, and hence will not injure or deface the same.

Another object of the invention is to provide a fixture of this general character by which the ordinary window shade or portiere, or both, may be efiectively held in place in the window casing.

A further object of the invention is to generally improve upon devices of this character by the provision of a device which will be extremely simple yet strong, durable and inexpensive in construction, and one which will be efficient and reliable in operation and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates an extensible rod which is made in two alined sections 2 and 3, the inner ends of which are differentially threaded to receive a turn buckle 1. series of openings 5 in which a suitable key may be inserted when turning the same- The free 1, that is the outer ends of the sections 2 and 3, are bent laterally at right angles from its intermediate portion as at 6 to aflord effective connection to a pair of abutment members 7 and 8 now to be specifically described.

These abutment members 7 and 8 are preferably circular in configuration and composed of rubber, although it is to be understood that they may be of any desired form and made of any other suitable material. Their outer sides are provided with recesses 9 covering almost the entire surface of the members to form substantially in effect vacuum or suction cups to aid them in firmly gripping the support in connection'with which they are used. The inner sides of the members 7 and 8 are provided with channels 10 and 11 respectively, the channel 10 extending completely across the member 7 and having one of its ends 12 off set out of longitudinal alinement with the major portion of said channel 10. The laterally bent ends of the rod 1 are disposed in the channels 10 and 11 and retained therein by means of suitable screws 13 or other equivalent securing means. In using the device, the rod 1 carrying the abutment members 7 and 8 is disposed horizontally between the upright portions of a window casing A and is adjusted by means of the turn buckle 1 until said abutment members are moved into tight engagement with the same. The rod section 2 is adapted to be turned to properly aline the recess 14 in the abutment member 8 with to expand or contract the rod 1.

If an ordinary window shade roller R is to be held in place by means of this curtain fixture, the rectangular-shaped or squared stud of the same is inserted in the offset end 12 of the channel 10 in the abutment member 7, and then dropped into a rectangular-shaped notch 15 in the portion of the end 6 of the rod 1 which is disposed adjacent the ofiset portion 12 of the channel 10.- The cylin drical stud at the other end of the roller the like from the window casing in addition to the window shade, and in this case it is looped, pinned, or otherwise hung upon the rod 1.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that the objects of the invention have been eiiectively carried out,

as a curtain fixture has been provided which can be attached to the window casin without screws or nails, and which can fie used to hold in place either an ordinary window shade or portiere, or both.

As various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of this invention, I do not wish to be limited to the construction herein shown and described other than that set forth in the appended claim.
