FRITZ BERGER, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
FOLDING STEREOSCO'PE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRITZ BERGER, manufact-urer, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing at 42 Wassertorstrasse, Berlin, Kingdom of Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Stereoscopes, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a folding stereoscope which may, when folded up, be sent away in form of a letter or the like without requiring any further packm Ihe invention consists essentially in that the folding plates-which when in position of use-form the casing and the picture holders of the apparatus, are provided with slotted ears, which "when in position of use engage in corresponding slots in the other plates and are held by means of hooks or the like provided on the latter, so that the apparatus may be easily and without need of any other devices such as springs or detachable parts, built up into a rigid body.
In the accompanying drawing the present invention is exemplified in a constructional form.
Figure 1 shows the new stereoscope in position of use in a perspective view. Fig. 2 shows the apparatus opened out, and Fig. 3 shows the apparatus folded up, in which condition it may be sent away in form of a letter or the like, without requiring any fur ther packing.
As it is evident from the drawing the new apparatus consists of the plates a, b, 0 and (Z, which are hinged together. To the plate 6 the lenses 6 are secured in a suitable manner. The plates (.7. have slotted ears f, which when the apparatus is fitted up for use (Fig. 1) engage in corresponding slots 9 in plate a and are there held by pivotally secured hooks it provided on the back of said plate. To plate a is further secured a plate 2', the two wings j of which may be turned up. These wings have ears is which,
Specification of Letters Patent.

when the wings j are turned up, will engage in slots m provided in plate c. When folded up the plates 5 0 and d are held over plate a by means of a swiveling hook it provided on the latter, which hook n engages in a slot 39 provided in plate 0, and can be turned over plate 0.
The wings j of plate 2' serve both for stiifening the apparatus when in position of use and as partitions between the pictures. For utilizing the wings j at the same time for holding the pictures, they are provided with slots q into which the pictures are inserted at different distances from the lenses according to the strength of the observers eyes.
For protecting the lenses 6, when the apparatus is folded up, for instance in sending it away by post, covers 1 are pivotally arranged on plate I). The several plates of which the apparatus is composed may be made of cardboard, leather, celluloid or any other suitable material.
The outer surfaces of the'apparatus may be used for advertisements or for private or business communications.
I claim:
A folding stereoscope comprising plates hinged together, some of these plates being provided with slotted ears adapted to engage in corresponding slots in other ones of said plates and thereby hold the apparatus in position of use, hooks pivoted to the other or second of said plates, said hooks being adapted to secure said slotted ears of the first plates in said slots of the second plates, and two wings hinged to the second plates, said wings being adapted to act both as partitions between the pictures and as holders for the same.
In testimony whereof I hereto afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRITZ BERGER.
Witnesses:
HENRY HAsPER, WOLDEMAR HAUIT.
