To all whom it may concern;

`Be it known that I, Vieron FrNsTnN, a subject of the King of Great Britain', and resident of the city ofToronto, county of York, Province Aof Ontario, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Pockets; and I do hereby declare thatthe following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

The invention relates to improvements in garment pockets, as described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings that form part of the same.

The invention consists essentially in the novel construction and arrangement ofthe webs of the fabric forming the pocket and f the material of the garment and pocket flap.

The objects of the invention are, to devise a formof double pocket in which either section may be closed the one independent of the other, thus providing a secret pocket, and further to enable t-he wearer of the garment to change the appearance of the pocket flaps at will.

In the dra-wings, Figure l is a perspective View of a portion of a garment showing the pocket with' the double flap exposed. Fig. 2 is aperspective view showing the lower flap hidden. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing both upper and lower flaps hidden. Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing both of the pocket flaps in their outer position with the upper one turned downwardly and the lower one partially broken away disclosing the arrangement of the locking tongue. Fig. 5 is al sectional view through the pocket as shown in Fig. l. Fig. 6 is a sectional view through the pocket -as shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 7 is a sectional view through the pocket as shown' in Fig. 3. Fig. 8 is a, sectional view" through the pocket as shown in Fig. 4. Fig. 9 is a sectional view showing the upper flap hidden and the lower one exposed.

Like numerals of reference indicate cor'respending parts in each figure.

Referring to the drawings, 1 is the fabric of the garment having a pocket slot 2 cut therein.

3 is a web of lining secured to the inner side of the fabric 1 below the slot 2 and eX- tending downwardly and forming one side of the pocket.

e, is a web of lining 'secured at its upper edge to the inner side of the upturned porsecured at its bottom and side edges of the bottoni and side edges of thefront lining 3.

6 1s a web of lining secured at the bottom and side edges between the front and back linings 3 and 4 and dividing the pocket into front and back sections. The upper edge of the center web 6 terminates directly opposite the pocket slot 2 and is securely fastened at the sides.

7 is the pocket flap secured intermediate of its depth to the upper edge of the center web 6 firmly sewn thereto at the ends and inwardly toward the center but the center portion is left unsewn, thereby providing a passage or opening 8 between the said flap and center web.

9 is a tab preferably formed of cloth the same as the garment fabric and secured between the. back lining 4 and the upturned portion 5 of the garment fabric, said tab belng arranged central of the width of the pocket and extending downwardly and formed with a button hole atl its bottom end.

l0 is a button secured to the outer face of the garment fabric below the pocket slot 2 and covered by the bottom portion of the pocket flap when the same is in its outer position.

A pocket constructed as described may be changed in various ways so as to have a different appearance and so as to close or lock either the inner pocket alone or both pockets together. The flap 7 being secured centrally is divided 'into upper and lower flaps 1l and 12 and both the upper and lower flaps may be arranged to the outside as shown in Figs. l, 5 and 8.

f In Fig. 5 the tab 9 is lying loosely within the rear pocket section but in Figs. 4 and 8 the tab is shown inserted through the passage 8 and pocket slot and is secured at the lowerend 'to the button 10. As the tab is secured at its upper end tothe upturned portion 5 it will be seen on reference to Fig. 8 that bot-h the inner and outer pockets will be securely closed so that the hand cannot be placed in the pocket 'without the tab being released and withdrawn.

If it is desired to have the pocket appear as a vest pocket with access to both pockets the tab 9 is left free and the lower flap 12 is pushed into the front pocket section as shown in Figs. 2 and 6. Either of said pocket sections may then be used as desired without interference. It it is desired to in as shown in Figs. 7 and 9 or if it is desired to lock the inner pocket and retain bothilaps to the outside the tab'9 may be inserted through the opening 8 and the lower. end left free within the outer pocket section.

In Fig. 7 the flaps are entirely hidden so that the pocket appears as shown in Fig. 3.

From this description it will be seen that many combinations of liaps may be had and however the flaps are arranged either .one or the other or both of the pocket sections may be locked as described,

What I claim as my invention is l. The combination with a garment pocket of the kind described having a partition eX- tending up to the pocket slot, of a flap joined tothe upper edge of said partition and having a slot adjacent to said joining', a tab secured Within the pocket and adapted to extend through said Hap and pocket slots to close the pockets.

In a garment pocket, the combination with a garment having a pocketslot therein, of a pocket member formed of three plies of material having the front and back ply secured to the inner sidel of the garment above and below the pocket slot and the center web terminating opposite the pocket Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, 'by addressing the inlener slot, a pocket Hap secured to the upper edge of said center web and` from the sides inwardly Aleaving a central opening between said fiap and said web, and a tab secured Within the pocket above the pocket slot adapted to extend through the opening between said Center web and Hap.

3. In a garment pocket, the combination with a garment having a pocket slot there` irnof apocket member formed of three plies of material having the front and back ply secured to the 'inner side of the garment 1 above and below the pocket slot and the center web terminatingopposite the pocket slot, a pocket flap secured to the upper edge of said Center web andl from the sides inwardly leaving a eentral opening between said Hap and said web, a tab secured within the pocket above the pocket slot adapted to extend through the opening between said center web and hap, said tab having a button hole therein, and a button secured to the outer face of the garment below the pocket slot.
