GIG-AR-MOISTENER.
specification of Lettersratent. Patented Sept. 26, 1911.
Application filed October 7, 1910. Serial No. 585,871.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN SIDEBOTHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Moisteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for keeping tobacco in cases moistened and comprises a simple and eliicient device consisting of an inverted triangular casing with means fastened to the inner surfaces ofthe ends of the device and serving to hold pieces of absorbent material to the walls of the casing.
The invention consists of various other details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of the device, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view transversely through the same.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a casing which is of triangular shape provided with sides B, the lower ends of .which are bent at angles toward each other, forming supports C for sheets of absorbent material. Fixed to the ends D of the casing is an angular outlined strip E which extends the length of the casing and is held in place Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
by means of the screw eyes E', one mounted in each end of the casing. The pieces of absorbent material, designated by letter F, are held against the inner faces of the sides B by the opposite corners of the strip E, the lower ends of the strips being supported by the inwardly turned ends C of the side walls of the casing, thus securely holding the same in place. Chains N are fastened to said eyes and form means for suspending the device within a show case or other receptacle in which cigars are held.
In adjusting the device for operation, the pieces of absorbent material are saturated preferably with a liquid and placed in the manner shown clearly in Fig. 2 of the drawings in which positions they would be held in place in the manner shown, the liquid being allowed to evaporate for the purpose of keeping the tobacco in the inclosure in which the casing is mounted moistened.
Vhat I claim to be new is A tobacco moistening device consisting of a triangular shaped receptacle 4having its bottom open, the lower edges of the inclined sides having inwardly turned ianges, triangular anged caps upon said receptacle, a square outlined strip, an eye bolt through said caps and engaging said strip, forming a supporting means for the latter, the diagonally opposite corners of said strip bearing against and adapted to hold the absorbent material against the inner faces of the inclined sides of the receptacle.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
J CHN SIDEBOTHAM.
