Era-1mm. MOISTURE PARTITION FOR GIGAR'BOXES. No. 441,557. Patented Nov. 25, 1-890,
WITNESSES INVENTOH WW I @Mw/ QM BY fl UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FREDERICK G. I'IEYDT, OF NElV YORK, N. Y..
MOISTURE-PARTITION FOR CIGAR-BOXES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 441,557, dated November 25, 1890,
Application filed February 1, 1890. Serial No. 338,890. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK G. HEYDT, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved lVIoisture-Partition for Cigar-Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cigarbox to which my improved moisture-partition has been applied, and Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the device detached from the box.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both Views.
The object of my invention is to provide for use in connection with cigar-boxes a device for supplying moisure to the cigars contained by the box, thedevice being so formed that it may be packed in the cigar-box along with the cigars Without occupying an appreciable amount of space and so proportioned as to render it self-supporting when in use.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter de: scribed and claimed.
The cigar-box A is of the usual description, and in'the present case it is furnished with a hinged cover B, which shuts down upon the sides a and between the ends I). To the box A is fitted an angled plate 0, preferably of metal. The part c of the plate 0, lying upon one side of the angle of the plate, is provided with apertures d. The part 6 of the plate upon the other side of the angle of the plate is imperforate. The length of the angled plate 0 is such that it reaches across the box A from side to side, as shown in Fig. 1. The angled plate 0 is designed to be packed in and furnished with the box of cigars, the plate being arranged against the side or end, so that its angle fits into the angle of the box. Arranged in this way the angled plate occupies a space equal to the thickness of the metal of which it is formed. After the removal of a portion of the contents of the box the angled plate 0 is arranged with the perforated portion cin an upright position, with the imperforate part ebetween the perforated portion and the end of the box, as shown in Fig. 1, and a moistened sponge D is placed in the space so partitioned off from thebody of the box and upon the imperforate part e of the plate 0. It will be observed that the imperforate part e is of sufficient width to render the partition entirely self-supporting without the necessity of any attachment to the box and without the use of any additional devices. By means of the movable self-supporting partition thus described the sponge D is separated from the cigars, while at the same time it is able to furnish moisture to the cigars through the apertures (1.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent 1. A self-supporting loose-fitting moisturepartition for cigar-boxes, formed of an angled plate furnished with perforations and with a broad supporting-foot, the said plate being movable in the cigar-box, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with a cigar-box, of a movable right-angled plate having perforate and imperforate portions, as described, and adapted to fit into the angle of the box, the said plate being movable in the cigar-box, as herein specified.
3. The combination,-with the cigar-box A, of a moistener formed of the angled plate 0, furnished with the perforated portion 0, the imperforate part c, and the sponge D, resting upon the imperforate part, substantially as specified.
FRED. G. H EYDT.
