Abstract
A method for preparation of a front end of a shell prior to rolling includes deformation of a workpiece by working rolls on a short profiling mandrel of a cross-rolling mill and rolling of the front end of the shell by idle rolls at exit side of the mill stand. Deformation of the front end of shell is carried with its thinning from the side of the inner diameter over the length of 0.7-1.0 of outer diameter of the shell by moving the mandrel in the direction of the workpiece during its gripping by drive rolls followed by moving the mandrel in the direction of rolling in the position corresponding to the stable process. Rolling the front end of shell is carried out by reducing its outer diameter without changing the thickness of wall to align the inner diameter along the length of shell.
