Abstract

The invention relates to a method for the preparation of melamine from urea in which solid melamine is obtained by transferring the melamine stream leaving the reactor to a product cooling unit where the melamine stream is cooled to a temperature below 175 degree C. More in particular it relates to a method for the preparation of melamine from urea via a non-catalytic high pressure process by transferring the melamine melt leaving the reactor to a product cooling unit where the melamine is recovered by cooling the melamine melt using a cooling medium, the melamine melt being cooled to a temperature below 175 degree C.
