Abstract
A brake disk is made of a lamellar graphite cast iron with specified high carbon and low silicon contents. A brake disk is made of a lamellar graphite cast iron of composition (by wt.) 3.9-4.2% carbon (C), 0.7-1.2% silicon (Si), ≤ 0.02% phosphorus (P), ≤ 0.02% sulfur (S), ≤ 0.05% aluminum (Al), optionally NOTGREATER 1.6% total of one or more of manganese (Mn), vanadium (V), copper (Cu), molybdenum (Mo) and chromium (Cr), balance iron (Fe) and impurities.
