The suction head comprises construction a (7) provided on the bottom side with a suction opening and having connection a for a suction conduit (3) of the dredging vessel (1) and a visor (81) rotatable around a shaft (9) running transversely of the direction of movement (P) between a lowered and raised position, wherein a a curved wall part (8a) of the visor (81) is slid in substantially watertight manner along a wall part (7c) of the suction head (6). The visor (81) is further provided on the bottom side thereof with toothed a beam (10) with cutting tools (11) for penetrating the bottom, and with an opening (15) in its rear wall (8b) along which sur­ rounding water can flow into the suction head (6) and which can be closed to the surrounding water by means of closing a member (20). Bottom mater­ ial, and in particular bottom material comprising clay, can be dredged in ef­ ficient manner using the suction head (6). The invention also relates to a dredging vessel (1) equipped with the suction head (6) and a method for dredging bottom particularly comprising a clay.
