Abstract
METHODSFOR COLLECTING AND USING PI,ACENTA CORD BLOOD STEM CELLS An ínnovative method of cotlecting cord blood stem cells ftrcm an isolated mammalian non- exsanguinated or partially exsanguinated placeufa by placcntal perfusion is described. Placental perfr¡sion can include perfusing the isolated placenfa with a pulsatile flow of perfusion solution, for example, gsing a pulsatile orperistalfic pufnp or device. The stem cells can thcn be isolated fiom tlte perfusate. The perftrsion solution can include an ariticoagr¡lant. The isolated mammaliân placenfa necd not be treated with an anticoagulant prior to perfusitrg. The isolated plãcenta can be free from an anticoagulant prior to pcrfising. Figure I
