Abstract

A mechanical bond is formed between high and low density absorbent fibre layers (1, 2) by needling. An absorbent material used in hygiene articles such as sanitary towels, incontinence pads or nappies comprises two layers of absorbent fibre material, one layer (2) having a higher density than the other (1). The two layers are bonded together mechanically. An Independent claim is also included for a method of mechanically bonding a low density absorbent fibre layer with a high density absorbent fibre layer by needling using an arrangement of blunt needles urged into the high density layer.
