Abstract

Breathing gas introduced through the inlet devices (5, 6) is compressed to supply through the outlet devices (9, 10) the tidal volume of pressurised breathing gas. The pump chamber (2) has a maximum volume which is less than the tidal volume. The inlet devices (5, 6) and those for variation of internal volume (3, 4) work together to provide the tidal volume in several compression strokes. - The pump chamber comprises of a piston housing, in which a piston (3) moves reciprocally to vary its internal volume. The piston housing has inlet and outlet devices which work in conjunction with each other so that the piston can compress the breathing gas in both directions of movement, thus provided the quantity of pulses.
