Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate unnecessary mechanical work, decrease vane abrasion, and save power by varying the contact pressure between a vane and a cylinder depending upon the vane stroke. CONSTITUTION:In suction stroke, a vane pressing chamber 10 consisting of a vane 9 and a groove on a rotor 4 undergoes the low pressure from the suction side because the chamber 10 is connected to an inlet port 11, which applies the low pressure on the vane 9. In compression stroke, the pressure in the vane pressing chamber 10 increases while the volume decreases as the vane 9 rotates because the chamber 10 is disconnected from the inlet port 11, which increases the vane contact pressure in proportion to the pressure increase in a compression room 16 so that an adequate sealing is secured. With the vane 9 passing the lower dead point, the pressure in the vane pressing chamber 10 is released toward the low pressure side, which decreases the contact pressure between the tip of the vane 9 and a cylinder 2 in order to eliminate the abrasion of the vane 9 as well as the mechanical loss caused by contact between the vane 9 and the cylinder 2.
