Abstract

A new method of pulp bleaching in which a low molecular weight catalyst, which mimics the action of ligninase, is used in conjunction with peroxide, an organic solvent and a fatty acid or its salt. Pref. the catalyst is partic. an enzyme of peroxidase type, and may have a porphyrin structure and is partic. a heamoprotein e.g. haemoglobin. The peroxide is added at up to 1% on pulp weight. The fatty acid is partic. halogenated. The organic solvent is present at 0-99% of water quant.
