Abstract
A system for operating a relay (1) by means of a switching element which is controlled with the aid of a computer (7), as a function of a reference value. The cycles in an AC circuit which is to be switched by contacts (4) of the relay (1) are sampled as the reference value. The contacts (4) open or close after a switching command at a zero crossing following a first zero crossing. A reference-value transmitter (3) is controlled by the voltage on terminals (6) in the AC circuit. A computer (7) -controlled delay element (8) is connected between the computer (7) and the relay (1). The reference-value transmitter (3), the computer (7) and the delay element (8) form parts of a microcomputer. An amplifier (9) is connected between the delay element (8) and the magnets (1) of a relay. The relay is a DC relay or a bistable AC relay. Contact operation takes place alternately in a phase-shifted manner in the vicinity of zero crossings. A plurality of switching parts are provided when a plurality of phases are switched. <IMAGE>
