Abstract

A material handling device has a vertically arranged screw conveyor 1 and two approximately horizontal auxiliary screw conveyors 7, 8. The horizontal screw conveyors 7, 8 in use convey material to the lower end of the vertical screw conveyor 1. The distance of each horizontal screw 7, 8 shaft from the vertical screw 1 shaft corresponds approximately to the flight pitch of the vertical screw 1. A casing 6 encloses the auxiliary screws 7, 8 but has an opening at the bottom whereby the device can be brought into conveying contact with a pile of bulk loose material to be conveyed by placing the device upon the pile. As shown the vertical screw conveyor 1 has an outlet 5 in its casing and is arranged midway along the length of the horizontal screw conveyors 7, 8. The device may be used e.g. for unloading ships. <IMAGE>
