Abstract

The folder comprises a combined grooving, tucker blade and gathering cylinder (1), a cutting cylinder (3) and a folding cylinder (5). The incoming web of paper can be cut up selectively into whole sheets or half sheets. If it is not cut up into sheets, as in normal operation, but into half sheets, the first half sheet is gripped by the gathering cylinder (1) and passed on to the folding cylinder (5) and delivered by the latter into a spider wheel (21). In contrast, the second half sheet is gripped only briefly by the cutting cylinder (3) and delivered to a spider wheel (31). The folder has the advantage that the half sheets produced are delivered alternately at two different places so that there is a sufficient gap between two half sheets in each case, thus guaranteeing reliable operation of the delivery device, and that it is suitable with comparatively little additional expenditure both for normal production and for production with half-size sheets. <IMAGE>
