Abstract

1486488 Engine driven by pressurized gas from a reactor H MULLER 12 Feb 1975 [12 Feb 1974] 6005/75 Heading F1Q Apparatus for recovering residual energy from the gaseous effluent from a closed reactor 1, in which pressurized oxygen containing gas is passed through a liquid reaction medium within the reactor, comprises means for withdrawing oxygen containing gas at a superatmospheric pressure from above the liquid level in the reactor, an engine 12 operable by the difference in gas pressure between the input and exhaust sides thereof, means 13 driven by the engine for utilizing the energy output thereof and conduit means 11 for conveying the withdrawn gas to the input side of -the engine. The means 13 for utilizing the energy output of the engine may be an electrical generator which is in electrical connection with at least one electric motor. The electric motor can be used to drive ancilliary equipment, for example an agitator 2 or froth remover 5 or may participate in driving an air compreesor 7.
