Abstract

1496375 Vehicle-frame checking gauge SAMEFA A B 4 Nov 1975 [6 Nov 1974] 45741/75 Heading G1M A gauge suitable for checking vehicle chassis frames by reproducing the position and straightness of the frame centreline C comprises a fixed part 12 adapted to span between two sides 20, 21 of the framework and a movable part 14 displaceable in or on the fixed part, both parts having a scale 24, 26 respectively which enable the movable part to be maintained at a fixed distance x from the centre line as the fixed part is suspended from different positions between the sides. The fixed part 12 is suspended by a holder 16 fixed at one end and a holder 18 slidably mounted by a sleeve 18 which comprises an index 30 registering against the scale 24. The movable part 14 telescopes within the fixed part, its scale 26 registering against an index 34 on the end of the fixed part; a sighting pin 36 and scale 38 for optical measurements are carried at the free end of the movable part. The scale 24 is numbered from left to right while the scale 26 is numbered from right to left in halfsize divisions, Figs. 1a and 1b, so that, in use, the part 14 is adjusted within the part 12 so that both scales read numerically the same to maintain the pin 36 and scale 38 at the fixed distance x from the centre line C regardless of the separation B of the sides 20, 21. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown), the scales (124, 126) of the fixed and movable parts are in sliding contact and are read against each other.
