Abstract
834,615. Optical apparatus. HENSOLDT & SOHNE OPTISCHE WERKE A. G., M. Jan. 10, 1958 [Jan. 12, 1957; Nov. 28, 1957], No. 1006/58. Class 97(1) In a machine such as a length measuring machine or a machine tool having a measuring scale and a scale reading device translatable relative to the measuring scale for reading measurements, at least one pendulous optical element is provided in the ray path of the scale reading device for compensating small inclinations of the reading device relative to the scale. As shown, carriages 1 and 2 are slidably mounted on a guide 8 for locating a workpiece 5 to be measured between points 3 and 4 thereof. The point 4 of the measuring carriage 2 is urged toward the workpiece 5 by a constant pressure device 6 as is usual in micrometer devices. The measuring carriage 2 contains a reading device for a measuring scale 9 arranged parallel to the guide 8 - comprising an objective 10 positioned above the graduation mark appropriate to the dimensions of the workpiece in situ which forms an image of the scale at the viewing window 11 by means of mirrors 13, 14, 15, 16, 16a and 17 and intermediate lens 12. The mirror 15 is half silvered for the lamp 18 to illuminate the measuring scale 9. A finely graduated transparent scale 22 adjacent the window 11 is movable with respect to the image of the scale 9 and co-operates therewith to provide a vernier. To compensate for tilting of the carriage 2 with respect to the scale 9, the mirror 13 is pivoted about an axis through A-A and has a pendulous weight 26 attached to it. Alternatively, a right angled pendulously suspended mirror may be provided at 13 providing double reflection in which case the axis of the lens 12 is vertical and a further mirror is necessary to direct the image forming beam toward the window 11. In a further embodiment, the mirrors are all fixed but a pendulous lens is provided to effect correction, a fixed lens also being provided in the ray path. The movable lens may be suspended from three threads into a damping liquid. Further examples of compensating pendulous optical elements are a prism and a focal Galilean system. A further embodiment is suitable for the measurement of a block placed on the working table of a machine tool. Specification 810,820 is referred to.
