Abstract

1432447 Moulding containers DANIELS STROUD Ltd 10 April 1973 17274/73 Addition to 1230282 Heading B5A The process of, and apparatus for, moulding thin-walled containers of plastics material described in the parent Specification 1,230,282 is modified by injecting the material into a space 5 through an injection plate 4 via a conduit 20, and compressing the material to the form of a diaphragm received by a groove in one or a pair of rings 1 by the upward movement of a piston 3b which may be rotated both during the injection and compression stages. The diaphragm, thus held, is conveyed by a transfer plate 2 to a station where it is shaped by a punch and mould cavity, together with air pressure and/or vacuum to container form, the finally shaped container including an integral rim as moulded by the groove in the ring or rings 1. The conduit 20 is laterally movable relative to the injection plate to close its outlet. In further embodiments the plate 4 and piston 3b are shaped to provide diaphragms of non-planar form and of non- uniform thickness.
