Abstract

1,153,165. Feeding wrapping sheets; feeding webs. METAVERPA N.V. 13 Dec., 1966 [5 Jan., 1966], No. 55740/66. Headings B8C and B8R. A wrapping sheet, fed to an article from a supply roll, passes through two sets of feed rollers between which is a device responsive to tension in the sheet, which at a predetermined value operates a switch actuating a knife blade. The two sets of feeding rollers travel at the same speed. In the embodiment described, sheets are fed by accelerating rollers 14, 13, on a work-table 2, on to a pair of belts 8. The roller 14 has a rough surface, and the roller 13 a smooth surface. When the article engages a switch (24), Fig. 2 (not shown), the drive to a clutch driven feed roller 19 is engaged and sheeting is fed from a supply reel 3 through a guideway 18 having a resilient section 25, 26 to work-table 2, the latter stages of feeding being affected by continuously driven feed rollers 20, and 23. When the article ceases engagement with the switch (24) the drive to the roller 19 is discontinued and the wheel is braked. Due to the continued rotation of feed rollers 20 and 23, the tension in the web in front of the roller 19 increases and the resilient section 25, 26 of the guideway 18, yields downwardly on to a switch 27 which operates a knife 21 to sever the sheet. When the web has been severed, the resilient part of the guideway returns to its former position, thus pulling the severed end of the sheeting away from the knife blade.
