Abstract
1,120,421. Drying air. C. G. MUNTERS. 7 July, 1965 [8 July, 1964], No. 28821/65. Heading B1L. Apparatus simultaneously traversed by a stream of a gas, e.g. air, to be dried and a stream of a regenerating gas, e.g. heated air, comprises a housing within which at least three contact bodies such as 10, 12, 14 and 16 made up of alternate plain and corrugated thin moisture-absorbing sheets are fixedly secured in spaced relationship defining with the walls of the housing a series of chambers inter-connected by the passages in the contact bodies and for the supply and withdrawal of the two gas streams to and from the housing pairs of ducts 22 and 24 and 26 and 28 below and above the housing, each duct having a valved opening communicating with each chamber whereby by suitable control of the valved openings a stream of a gas to be dried can pass from duct 22 through a selected number, three as shown, of the contact bodies and withdrawn from duct 28 and a stream of regenerating gas can pass from duct 26 through the remaining contact body or bodies, one as shown, and be withdrawn through duct 24. The chambers between the contact bodies contain triangular baffles as shown and the contact bodies are of known type made of e.g. asbestos sheets impregnated with lithium chloride. The stream of gas to be dried is forced through the apparatus and the regenerating stream of gas is sucked through the apparatus so that the section of the apparatus being employed for drying is at a higher pressure than the section being regenerated. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown) one large contact body is employed and different sections thereof are traversed by the gas to be dried and by a regenerating gas.
