Abstract
A second layer (6) is placed on top of a combination of first and third layers (5, 7), the first length edges (8, 12) of these two layers are folded over the two length edges (10, 11) of the second layer and all three layers are joined together along the second layer length edges on either side of the second layer. The second length edges (9, 12) of the first and third layers are bent outwards in the material cross-direction to create raised portions. A method is claimed for making a web of multi-layer material, especially for a hygiene article such as a nappy, incontinence pad or sanitary towel. The material comprises three layers, each with two edges extending in the web length direction. The method comprises the following steps: (a) the first and third layers are arranged essentially parallel to each other in the web length direction, the first edges of these layers being separated by a distance (14); and (b) applying a second layer with a width (15) less than the distance between the first edges of the first and third layers on top of the combination of these two layers, folding the first edges of these two layers over the first and second edges of the second layer and joining the layers together along the first and second edges of the second layer on either side of the latter. Bending the second edges of the first and third layers outwards in the material cross-direction creates raised portions formed by the first edges of these layers surrounding the first and second edges of the second layer. Independent claims are also included for: (a) the material made by this method; and (b) a hygiene article containing a layer of this material.
