Abstract

FIELD: internal- combustion engine. SUBSTANCE: annular catalytic converter 11 designed for cleaning exhaust gases of internal-combustion engines from pollutants during warm-up period of the latter has case 13 forming chamber for exhaust gas 15, admission hole 17 for exhaust gas on one end of case and outlet hole 19 on other end of case, hollow catalytic structure 23 with isolated channels and voids. Catalytic structure is mounted coaxially along case within chamber and separated from case walls thereby forming passage 25 between outer surface of catalytic structure and walls and axial channel 27 connecting outlet hole and admission hole. Converter has valves 41 that open or close depending on definite conditions. When valves are closed, gas flow through axial channel is shut off so that gas flows in radial direction through catalytic structure into passage; when they are open, gas easily flows from admission hole through axial channel to outlet hole. EFFECT: improved design.

Claims (1)

An annular catalytic converter 11 for cleaning the exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine during its heating, the housing 13, which forms a chamber for receiving exhaust gas 15, an inlet 17 for exhaust gas from one end of the housing and an outlet 19 from the other end of the housing, a hollow catalyst structure 23 having separated channels and pores. The catalytic structure is fixed coaxially along the housing in the chamber and is separated from the walls of the housing, thereby forming a passage 25, between the outer surface of the catalytic structure and the walls and the axial channel 27 connecting the inlet and outlet openings. The transmitter has valve means 41 that open and close depending on certain conditions. In the closed state, the valve means shut off the gas flow in the axial channel, causing the gas to flow radially through the catalytic structure into the passage and in the open state, allowing the gas flow to flow unhindered from the inlet through the axial channel to the outlet.
