Abstract
Prepn. of substd. thiocarbamates, comprise feeding together continuously in an appropriate solvent, a sec. amine and sulphur in stoichiometric amts. into a column working under a pressure of Co. While keeping the soln. circulating all the time in the column. The prod. of the reaction is alkylated and the substd. thiocarbamate removed continuously as it is formed. The need for both the use of excess sulphur and a two stage reaction is avoided. Specifically the sulphur is totally dissolved in the amine and both of them are fed to the reaction column at the same time as the solvent. The sulphur can also be dissolved in a mixt. of the amine and a soln. of the product substd. thiocarbamate of the reaction which has been recycled.
